@elgee i added that album you sent to my phone and everything seemed to show up perfectly. I think the issue is like you mentioned.. if there are some albums that dont have the sort tags and some that do.. it causes issues. When testing i did notice one of my albumartists was not sorting correctly and im guessing this is due to something similar. I have like 20 albums and im guessing some dont have the sort tag. Put something on trello for that trello.com/c/DNrhwf0B

Sometimes after starting the scanner the whole library is like gone or unresponsive(smart playlists don't show anything) and it takes a time to come back. I still got this problem nearly everytime I trigger the scanner (via intent or settings). Clearing cache didn't fix it. I tried clearing data some weeks ago that seemed to work. However after rescanning the library the date added didn't restore correctly, so I had do bring back the old library (via titanium backup). Is there any way to backup the complete library (especially the date added, ratings and stats are written in the mp3's anyway)? Greets

all 3 of those are in the backup. You can open it up in a text editor to see. Its just an xml file

Did you disable cleaning the database after a scan in the scanner settings? If stuff is being removed from the database / library that means the android OS is saying the file no longer exists which typically indicates something is wrong with the storage (assuming this is sometime after the phone initially starts up. sdcards take a few seconds to mount after boot)

Ah okai I was unsure if the date added was in the backup, as within the backup tab it only says "ratings & playcounts" (in German: Wiedergabezähler und Bewertungen).
However disabling the option to clean the database after scan seems to have fixed the Problem, thanks. But why does It lead to that behavior when actually nothing gets cleaned?

you said "Sometimes after starting the scanner the whole library is like gone". That means it got cleaned. Scanner checks if each file exists and removes it if it does not exist (at the time of the scan) during the clean process.

btw i do have a potential partial fix for the cleaning thing in 3.2. The cleaning code wont run until a few minutes after device boot. Just basing on what some users have said.. it tends to happen after booting the phone and i do know it takes a little bit for the sdcard to mount (despite there being APIs specifically for telling if a device is mounted..which gmmp uses and wont clean on anything android says isnt mounted). No clue how well it'll work

It not sometimes indeed it's everytime the clean process gets triggered the library gets unresponsive and sometimes it gets completely blank too (it's not only after bootup or sth.).
And the cleaning process does not clean anything, as for example triggering the scanner (and so the clean process) 2 times in a row no file will be cleaned as there are no changes at all, but still the whole library gets unresponsive.

scanning/cleaning is 100% done on a background thread and should have no effect on the UI. It does scan the storage so a bad/dying/corrupt sdcard can potentially cause havoc
