Somehow the Scanner is a little bit buggy since one of the latest updates.
Often the Scanner notification stays in the notification bar showing "0 Tracks found" (even though there are new tracks added). Sometimes after starting the scanner the whole library is like gone or unresponsive(smart playlists don't show anything) and it takes a time to come back.

Haven't changed anything in the scanner in awhile. Sounds like you needs to clear the app cache and reset. You typically don't need to manually scan when adding music. The app auto scans and adds when music is added. That would be why it shows 0. If the music isn't in the library after the scans then it's an issue with your storage (especially if you are saying things are locking up, that 100% is a storage issue)

Okai thanks I'll try a reset. I'm moving files everytime I download music automatically using tasker and I trigger the scanner every time as it takes too long for GMMP to recognize these file movements.

Are you on Windows, at Win 7 or higher? Download a Microsoft Power tool called Synctoy. You can establish a source (your desktop music library folder) and a destination (your uSD card music folder). Simply run this tool when you have your card ready on your PC, and it will update and changes you made since the last one. The first run takes a while depending on how big your sync folder is. After that, if you make even 50 or 100 track changes, the sync takes just a minute or so.

I started using that to sync my music to another machine and external drive for backups. Haven't tried with a phone yet tho For PC Backups of my Android music I use Freefilesync (where you have a bunch of options to specify the sync as you want it). In my case for example: I don't have everything of the music on my phone though, so it only syncs files which are on both PC and Android, but adds files to the PC Library when added on Android. However this has nothing todo with the PC sync. When I download music as mp3 (on Android) I automatically move them in specific folders I choose using tasker. After that GMMP doesn't directly show the new files, so I trigger the scanner after I moved one or multiple new files.

Is that anything like syncthing? I started using that to sync my music to another machine and external drive for backups. Haven't tried with a phone yet tho Might be, but it seems to work well and was from MS. It does need the card to be available as a drive. I just put in a USB reader once in a while and run this. It syncs any file and tag changes made since the previous sync. I make all changes on the PC side first, to make sure my main library source is updated. The uSD cards I use in my phone and DAP are copies.

Since the 3.1.2 update, the next track and next artist metadata display on the now playing page are not working. They are showing the same data as the current track and artist. They were working before.

They were working before. Follow up - I deleted the app cache and the next data works again. But if I restore the settings it fails again. I'm not sure what changed. Anything that can be suggested before I try to rebuild all settings from scratch?

do you have repeat on or something? Nothing has changed regarding next song info Nah I checked that too. I could change tracks manually, or auto as each track ended. The next tags were just mirroring the current track. So I spent some time to go through all of my settings, then cleared the app data again. Rather than restore from the backup file, I set all of my options from my notes including UI colours, custom metadata for each screen, etc. All is working again as expected. I did keep a copy of the old settings.XML file, renamed. I have now backed up the newly created settings again. I assume it was something I changed somehow and couldn’t remember what or when that was.

Same Albums having different Album Artists appearing twice or thrice Need an option to group albums by year Change this setting to “ Never” if the files are grouped together. Settings>Scanner>Ignore Year If not, you will need to make sure the AlbumArtist tag is properly formatted in these files. If the Album titles are the exact same, only the AlbumArtist field will distinguish them apart. This is the same in all players, at least those that use the AlbumArtist tag. If these ideas still don’t work in your case, you will need to adjust any similarly named Albums to make sure their tags are unique, even if they look similar. Add an extra space between words on one, use similar Unicode characters, use an underscore, or others. There is no other way for a player to separate Albums otherwise.

An album should only have a single albumartist. That's the point of the tag
