The gapless option says on the device 'May cause higher CPU usage' ?
Yeah just very short skips, but not when using default engine, so is it the OS, why doesnt the OS affect the default player? Just seems gmmp engine causes skips?

yeah because the audioengine itself uses more cpu power than the default media player
it was easier to put the warning in.. instead of trying to explain in detail what is going on

So Im at a dead end?
I either listen to constantly skipping music or listen to playlists that stop after a couple of songs?

Yeah Shuffle collection does work, but my player is mainly used at my work, I cant have stuff like Slayer coming on random! Thats why playlists are so important to me, no Metal or HipHop at work!
Looking forward to new version cant wait to see skinning and other options and look forward to finding a soloution to my problems!
Thanks

hey just to let you know... most of those error logs you are sending lately are just bad playlists.. there is nothing I can do for that
rror8 = Sat Mar 10 13:46:33 NZDT 2012 - M3UFile - Cannot find Music/Adrenaline Mob/Omerta/Freight Train.mp3 from playlist error13 = Sat Mar 10 13:46:34 NZDT 2012 - M3UFile - Cannot find Music/Queensryche/Dedicated To Chaos/Higher.mp3 from playlist error14 = Sat Mar 10 13:46:34 NZDT 2012 - M3UFile - Cannot find Music/Queensryche/Dedicated To Chaos/Retail Therapy.mp3 from playlist
it looks like you are trying to use relative paths.. which is fine.. but in order for that to work they need to be relative from the location of the playlist file
Now i dont know where you are keeping the playlist files.. but for those cases above.. if you had the playlist.m3u file in whatever/Music, the file paths would have to be like this
whatever/Music/playlist.m3u
Adrenaline Mob/Omerta/Freight Train.mp3 Queensryche/Dedicated To Chaos/Higher.mp3 Queensryche/Dedicated To Chaos/Retail Therapy.mp3
gmmp would convert those to /whatever/Music/Adrenaline Mob/Omerta/Freight Train.mp3 /whatever/Music/Queensryche/Dedicated To Chaos/Higher.mp3 /whatever/Music/Queensryche/Dedicated To Chaos/Retail Therapy.mp3

I have my playlists in the /Music/ folder, dont think mediamonkey is producing these properly, will need to look at the files again, it did them right the other day, not sure whats changed. Something random, was playing with poweramp, which was also skipping constantly, read lots of forums and people were sayin th harddrives in the archos devices had problems with the disc spinning up and down which was causing skips, and today running poweramp i have not had a single skip, the only major difference is I have the unit lying flat on the desk!? Normally i always have it upright on its stand, will test this today, so many variables is making this really dificult. Just about ready to send this device back, but there are no other mediaplayers that comes close to the capacity of the Archos 70it

if you get the chance.. try setting preferences -> audio -> preload next track to 0
might cut back on the times where playback starts at the beginning of the next song

Yeah had it set to 0 for a while now, no difference really. Got Mediamonkey exporting lists properley again, but now the lists are throwing out lots of new errors, all problem characters again. Back to work again on my lists

hm thats weird then.. i was thinking maybe the errors were coming from preloading the next track.. but i guess not.. with that set at 0 the preloading doesnt happen.
Whatever the error that is happening is occuring in the mediaplayer class provided by google, so I will try to make it at least attempt to reload the track and play it again.. or skip to the next one. I do have the option to skip on error, but i think that was only working with the audioengine i wrote.
I bet the issue does have to do with the hard drive.. since you said the song starts playing for like a second before it stops right?

No the song doesnt actually start, just loads all details and art but stays at 00.00.00, (I have skip on error checked). The strange part is to fix problem you just have to advance to the next track and everything starts again. (once you forward to the next track then go back to the problem track it plays fine)

1.2 should at least start printing errors if playback stops because of an error.. which might help find out the issue
