I'm normally pretty technologically literate, but this one has me stumped.
Most music players I deal with have the option to separate listening to an album on shuffle from listening to the entire song library on shuffle. I can't seem to figure out how to set that up on this player, though.
Basically what I am trying to functionally achieve is, if I select an album to "play", I want the album, and only the album, to shuffle, and repeat, preferably not in the same shuffle order over and over (that's why I left my last music player).
Then, I should be able to, without changing any settings, select a single song, and that starts my whole collection on shuffle.
Currently what happens is one of two things, depending on what settings I toggle back and forth.
Either the album aspect works great, but then when I select a single song, it just loops the song over and over (or, if I turn on the "Play rest of album" setting, it starts going into the album, but if I wanted that, I'd select the album, not the individual song).
Or
I set the whole collection on shuffle, but if I select an album to "play", it plays one song then immediately transitions into my whole collection.
Is there any way I can achieve this, or is this just a setback of using GMMP?

I dont agree with that second part at all. There are 2 shuffle modes, shuffle QUEUE and shuffle collection. If you have it on shuffle queue it should do that.. if you play one song (i assume you are playing it from the song list because selectin a song in an album will queue up the whole album) and want it to change to shuffle your whole collection you should select shuffle collection. Both shuffle modes serve there own purpose. If you want to select a single song and have it shuffle all of your music while in shuffle queue mode, you are going to have to add all your music to the queue. The song view wont do that because some gmmp users have 50k+ songs in their library and queuing up everything is not very efficient, but if you do create a smart playlist with a simple rule like rating greater than or equal to 0 and select one song to play from that it will add everything in that smart playlist to the queue. Smart playlists are user created so its their own fault if they create a smart playlist with 50k+ songs, compared to the song view which everyone gets by default
You may ask "what good is shuffle queue when i just play one song", well simply just because you click on a single song to play and leave it like that, doesnt mean others do. GMMP is all about building queues on the fly, so many users click a song to play, then immediately queue up a bunch of other songs/albums that they want to listen to on shuffle. Its not really possible to detect the motive of the user, which is why there are 2 discrete shuffle modes
