I am sure it worked once when testing several music players. Now I have chosen for GMMP and uninstalled all other audio players it doesn't work anymore.
I have a bluetooth receiver in my car, a Kinovo BTC455. The idea is that when I get in my car the GMMP resumes playback without any user intervention, with the phone still in my pocket. When leaving the car and so disconneting from the bluetooth receiver the playback should stop and GMMP should close.
But it doesn't work. I tried the settings which should make it possible but without success. GMMP closes after disconnect from my BT receiver, but it never starts anymore.
What can I do to resume playback when I start my car?

if you have android 5.0, it likes to kill gmmp's music service in the background all the time when idle. This is mainly because 5.0 is bad and kill happy

Is the "Music service timeout" setting related to this? This option is marked on my phone.

Its for people who refuse to believe the fact that android manages memory for you and there is no reason to ever force kill an app (strictly to free up memory). None of gmmp's features are guaranteed if you use that timeout
