The BT receiver gets GMMP's last metadata when the car turns on, but hitting play/pause on the receiver won't start the music. If I go to the phone and open GMMP and hit play, I can then hit the pause/play on the receiver and it works. I have "Enabled Headset/Remote Controls" and "High Priority Receiver" checked. This normally works OK with other music players (which I've uninstalled to avoid receiver conflict).
I didn't want to use "Auto Resume" because the receiver doesn't default to the Bluetooth source.
Any thoughts? Thanks for your help, I've almost got this where I want it.

After some further testing it DOES play, though I need to wait about 30 seconds after I first hit the play button. After it's playing it will be fine the rest of that drive.

the music service has to be running in order for it to respond to BT actions, if its taking 30 seconds for GMMP to respond that means your phone is not broadcasting out the media button intents until 30 seconds later. GMMP responds the instant they are broadcasted, but its up to the OS to actually send them out. GMMP does not directly handle any BT related.. its all handled by the OS

Is that the system's music service, or a GMMP music service? I don't see either running all the time, so I might try having Tasker start it manually when I get in the car.

gmmp's music service. If you have android 5.0.x, lollipop is overly aggressive in shutting down background services.. its horrible
