Installed this on an Atrix 4G running Cyanogen Mod 10.1 (Android 4.2.2), having heard many good reviews (and it seems to be the only Android player I've tried that allows for Album Artist tags to be read). However, whenever I play an album, it will only play the first song of the album, then stop playing and cut back to the Android homescreen. No matter which track I select, it will only ever play one and then cut back to the home screen and stop play.
Has this problem been documented before, and any ideas on how to rectify it?

Has this problem been documented before, and any ideas on how to rectify it? its most likely a problem with your rom. Many custom roms have buggy versions of opensl that will crash when destroying the decoder (each song loads its own decoder so on a track change the old one would get destroyed causing the crash). I take it your music is m4a/aac? That is the only format gmmp uses opensl for by default (gmmp cannot ship with its own m4a decoder due to the patent license fees). The officially supported devices for cyanogenmod typically do not have this issue.. its usually in the unsupported devices (the atrix 4g cm 10.1 is unofficial) If you dont care about gapless/replaygain/crossfade/the gmmp equalizer.. you can disable all them in the preferences (this still allows you to use the android eq) and that should fix the playback. Disabling these settings will revert GMMP to use the stock media player that 90% of the players on the market use
