When it arrives in the UK later this month, I'm probably going to buy a Fiio E18. Is there any reason GMMP won't work with this?
It uses some of the newer Android audio functionality to take digital audio out of the USB and then use its own DAC and headphone amp. It's definitely compatible with my phone's OS, just checking there's no problem with the app.

shouldnt be.. usb audio out is done by the OS so its nothing that the music player controls. GMMP basically just sends audio to the OS and the OS determines whether to route it through headphones, bluetooth, speakers, or usb out

Hi, the E18s have finally arrived in the UK, and I'm about to buy one. I just looked at this page: www.fiio.com.cn/products/index.aspx?ID=100000049935442&MenuID=105026002and see that for Galaxy S4 it says "Owing to differences in smartphone firmware, newer smartphones may require installation of 3rd party music players to work with the E18 as a DAC." Does this follow what you were thinking last month? Do you still think that your player will work with it?

not sure why it would tell you it may need a 3rd party player.. the android os controls where audio is routed.. not the music player.. i dont see why it wouldnt work

Well the E18 arrived yesterday. I've had time to have a little play with it, and it seems to work just fine. Sounding pretty good too From reading around on other forums, it was with pre-4.3 Android that people needed specific software to make it work on the S4. Thanks for your reassurances - glad I made my purchases. Looking forward to GMMP 1.5 release too!

I will be receiving my FiiO E18 in a few days too. I will be using it with LG G2 and will report here if there is any issue or not. How can I know if the flac file I am playing is not being down sampled? Is there any setting to show what bit/kHz the song is being played?
Cheers

Cheers Android only supports up to 48khz / 16 bit regardless of the DAC (those limits are hardcoded). If your file is higher than 48khz / 16bit it is going to be downsampled. You can see the sample rate if you add it as one of the slots to now playing.. but that is going to be the sample rate of the source and not what its being played back in

yes but it requires their special sdk to support it.. which no player (besides their stock) that I am aware of has implemented. Any player using the android SDK for playback will be capped at 16bit / 48khz edit: i actually dont even see the sdk/api on LG's site.. when the phone came out they mentioned they would release apis for the high quality audio, but im not finding any more info on it

Guess I have no other choice but to use the stock player when playing 192/24 flacs. Hope you can implement this in the future (that is if the LG G2 sdk is made available.)

FYI, the FiiO E18 itself doesn't support 192kHz. Highest it does is 96k/24.
Also when you get yours, be very careful with the micro-micro USB cables. I bent the connector on mine without being to rough with it, and it isn't easy to get spares! Luckily the retailer I bought my E18 from had a couple and sent them to me, but I couldn't find anything suitable to buy anywhere.
Hope you enjoy your E18 - I love mine.

Ben
What Android version are you using? I have updated my G2 to 4.4.2 and I noticed hissing sound even when the music is playing so I reverted to 4.2.2. Interested to know if this issue is present when using external DAC.
Thanks
Arnold

I have a Galaxy S4, running 4.3. Never had any hissing issues, with or without the DAC.

Hi Arnold, I've now upgraded to 4.4.2, and the E18 is still fine. No hiss, no playback or control problems. Did you get yours yet?
