Hi
been using the gonemad player on my xperia ray phone. Does everything I need it to do. Version 1.4.15.2
However, I've just completed getting the metadata sorted (using mp3tag), and have now seen a couple of odd issues
I sort by "album artist" to keep the compilation albums neatly ordered
Issue 1. All artists that starts with "The", I have removed the "The" in the album artist tag (so "The Waterboys", become "Waterboys", etc), but all "The..." are still listed with The in the artist name (so Waterboys is still listed under "T" instead of "W"). This is the same for ALL bands beginning with "THE"... compilations are listed correctly, as per the album artist
Issue 2. some of the album year dates are randomly missing. So when I go into an artist, I have sorted their albums by date. I have an album showing as no date ("0" is displayed), but when I go into that album, all tracks are showing the year correctly in the tag... but the album year tag is empty. 95% of the albums appear to be fine, and nothing in mp3tag appears to show anything differently (incl. the extended tags) in the files being displayed correctly vs the files not work correctly
ALL music files are MP3
could there be some cache that needs clearing from before I updated the library with the updated MP3 files? (I wiped the music folder on the SD card, and copied everything over again)
thanks (brilliant product by the way!)

if you update tags externally you need to run a new scan for gmmp to pick up the changes for most of the views. Now playing will show the update because they are read from the tags, but the library views are read during the initial scan and stored in a database. You will have to uncheck "Only scan new files" in the scanner and run a new scan
Album year is determined by the first file scanned for an album. If you can find a specific song that gmmp doesnt read the year correctly for.. send it to gonemadsoftware@gmail.com and i can check it out. MP3 tags are extremely hard to scan 100% correctly because there are tons of taggers that do not properly conform to the id3 specs.. so there are millions of incorrectly tagged files out in the wild and it has to account for every case. Also some other tools that add lyrics or album art to a file have been known to corrupt tags as well
If you dont have many stats you care about like playcount or song rating.. i recommend just checking delete database and running a new scan. Prefs -> General -> backup does let you backup and restore you existing stats

thanks for getting back so quickly. i went into scanner and checked the "delete database before scan" option (which I didn't do when I re-loaded the card) and everything now works!! Perfect. Many thanks
