Your Balance controls are a great feature. Setting 0% to 100%, either left or right channel, is critical for me (will explain below).
But I would LOVE to be able to set my L-R channel balance, THEN take that output and send it both ears when "Mono" is selected.
In other words, I could select Right 100% balance, then click Mono, and hear ONLY the right channel delivered to both ears/speakers. Likewise for Left, of course.
The real-life application is for singer's learning tracks, where the Solo part is recorded to the Left track, say, and all the other parts, backup mix, accompaniment, etc., is recorded to the Right (with NO solo). People normally listen at first with Left 100% (or stereo), then as they memorize their part, they rehearse with the playback at Right 100%.
Sure, we can listen out of one ear or speaker, but obviously two is better.
If we had this feature, I would immediately recommend this app to the 40,000 or so singers in the Barbershop Harmony Society, the Sweet Adelines, Harmony International, church music singers, Jazz musicians (Jamey Aebersold rehearsal tracks), etc., etc.
That would be fantastic.

i think this is doable, not sure on the effort level.
The current pipeline is audio file -> decoder -> resampler (this is where its converted to mono) -> dsp (balance/equalizer) -> audio output
L/R balance is a trivial calculation so putting a special case in for mono should work

Yes, this would be the proper and useful way:
EQ first in the signal chain, then downmix to mono. And a little switch in the EQ section (like "EQ" and "LIM") for mono.

I really do need to rework the whole audio pipeline, but fortunately enough i think i can make this change with little issue.. it'll be a bit messy but i'll eventually clean it up
I've been throwing around some ideas of allowing custom dsp plugins and decoder plugins... this obviously is a long way from now but I would eventually like to open up some apis for 3rd party devs

Alright well i got this working. Changes to the balance in the eq view do take awhile to take affect however (5 seconds maybe.. depending on the buffer size)
