Lots of suggestions... I think the easiest way to get it done would be like on Windows Phones where there's a header for each letter in the list (A for all the "A" stuff, etc.). If you click on any of the letter headers, a grid pops up with all the letters and you can click one to jump directly to that part of the list. On Windows Phones, only the available letters are clickable. I've found the letter scroll bar on Android phones works, but it's not as quick as the Windows Phone way. Not sure if the attachment worked, so here is a link to a picture. www.winrumors.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/applistsearch.jpg

i agree that the way in the screenshot is probably the best
its unfortunately that there is nothing even remotely close to this in the android sdk. Custom UI elemetns are possible but a lot more work

the letter popping up? yeah much easier. I had that in during the old alpha days but it was inaccurate (showing the wrong letter) so i disabled it and i never went back to add it in

Ok. And what about this: ssl.gstatic.com/android/market/com.jbapps.contact/ss-2-320-480-160-1-b74fc10f84702d3318a618166d5f850040681b8d ? Typing on the desired letter on the right would slide directly to the artists starting with that letter. I guess the implementation would be as complex as the one asked by tom. Another idea I experimented with N7Player: www.mobiflip.de/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/n7-tags.jpg. It's a very good way to have a "almost-global" overview of all the artists. My opinion is the artists view in Gonemad is not "global" enough. When I search who I want to listen to without having someone in my mind, I'd like to be able to quickly look over the whole artists in a efficient way. Something inspired from this N7player screenshot would be nice! Anyway, GoneMad is definitely the best one (Poweramp and N7player tested) and I don't regret at all to have purchased the license!

ah i thought you were gonna show something different. yea i've used n7 before.. i dont know if it has improved but that interface was extremely slow and laggy on the devices i tested on. Im sure its great for users with smaller collections. Its also completely opengl rendered and a massive amount of work to accomplish
i dont see myself adding something like that, but i do plan on a playerpro style grid type view where its appropriate
