Hi, I'm not sure where to post this. Feel free to put in the appropriate thread if needs be or if you can/want. Sometimes albums are imported into the library under 2 album names - which are identical. I see no difference in the tags of the attached example (except for the names and track numbers of the individual tracks). There doesn't seem to be any rule governing this behaviour. Sometimes when I modify the tags it'll group the albums as one, but most of the time it won't. It requires a lot of faffing about. Is this a known issue and can it be fixed? I've tried updating the library before and after modifications. The albums are grouped in individual folders. The albums are run through Mp3tag on the computer 9 times out 10, before going on my 'phone.

There are several tags that can affect this. Do the songs all show the same year? Do some of them have the Albumsort tag that differs from the other?
Note that GoneMAD is the only app that I am aware of on Android that currently uses the "sort" tags for Albumartist, Artist, Album, and Composer. I don't think Titlesort has been added (yet). This is pretty powerful for library management and browsing. But it means you have to be a bit more aware of these tags if you use them, or have acquired music from a source like Apple Music at some point.
Since you are using mp3tag, you can load all of these tracks, highlight them all and then check the tag panel or hit Alt-T to open them all at once. If there is a tag like Album, Albumsort, Year, or others that don't match, they will show as "< keep >" instead of showing the expected name. That is where you may need to fix something.

In this specific case all the "years" are the sameĀ (1996). I'll try what you suggested for Mp3tag probably this weekend. I did try to use the albumsort in GMMP's tag editor (my phone is in French so I assume that's what "tri par album" is) on another album that had that problem and it worked (even though the years are different), but not for Nick Cave's Murder Ballads. So I've just seen that it's album sort order is that the same thing as albumsort? Is there a way to force the language in the programme whilst keeping my phone in French?

Since you have already checked the more obvious places where there could be a difference, I would use the more robust mp3tag to check these other places for differences. Something has to be driving GMMP to separate them. Album Sort Order is the user-friendly name for the Albumsort tag that you will be able to see in mp3tag. I don't think there is an app-specific language chooser for GMMP.

Thanks for the info. It mentions in the article that it's best to check tags using song info. However, for the moment it's a bit cumbersome to look at all of the tracks in an album. Would it be possible to add a way of flicking left to show the next song.

GMMP's tag editor is really just for small edits here and there and not for fixing a huge amount of inconsistent tags
