I have set the scanner to run several times, all my music is on an SD card (I am using a Basso DX170) when I select folder path there is no opption to browse to the folder and no existing path that seems to work, I tried variattions on Storage/SD card/Music but to no avail, I do not see a number for the card either, how do I get it to read the card? Does it have some kind of reset to default?

Further. I uninstalled and reinstalled, now the scan path has Storage/3134-6633/Music as a path as well as the emulated path, I assume from reading the help file that this numbered path is to the SD card, yet despite enabling all permissions it still does see the files and tracks, also, All my music files are in separate folders for each artist within that Music folder, I would have thought it would know to look in sub folders, is that the case? Or does every folder need it's own path? (That would be horribly tedious)

Yet more further. I placed mp3 files directly into the music folder, but despite the path being correct the scan failed to even see these, I tried clearing and even deleting the databsae, but to no avail. How the heck does anyone get this thing to see files on an SD card?

I have a DX160 and have no issues. I know that the 170 has a newer version of Android. But many users have other iBasso devices too.
With Android’s file protection getting stronger there are some differences in how to access the SD card. First, enable access to the root of the drive. Even though this isn’t where your folders/files are directly stored, that is required. Then you can point the scanner at the main Music folder.
Using subfolders for Artist/Album/ tracks is standard for most and I have no issues.

also a good indicator that the paths are set up correctly is going to the folder view and making sure things show up there. it literally just traverses the file system from the paths set. If the scans pick up nothing but the folder view can find the files that means you have hidden .nomedia files which tell the scanner to skip the folder (hence turning off that option i mentioned previously)

I too could not get GMMP to see my SD card in my Moto x4 Android 9. In GMMP I had to manually set the path to the SD card to "/storage/0000-0000/MP3 Music" so that GMMP would scan my music on the SD card. I don't think GMMP handles SD cards without some coaxing and then it doesn't see the filesystem timestamp for files and folders on the SD card.

on first install it queries the sdcards and auto adds them. Anything added after the fact has to be added either via typing in the path or navigating to it. Depending on the version of android, google restricted the ability to navigate to it, which is why the manual entry was added. The manual path is easily findable using any decent file manager app

on first install it queries the sdcards and auto adds them. On first install SD card was already installed in the phone with all the music - Android 9 -Moto x4. GMMP did not add the sd card so I used the Airdroid app to find the mount point of the SD card since the 2 file manager apps I tried did not give the mount point of the SD card other than saying it is a Samsung SD card. Once I got the mount point I added it and the root music folder to GMMP (/storage/0000-0000/MP3 Music) Then the initial scan did not use filesystem timestamp even though I've seen the code that says it should use the timestamp on initial scan. I also tried deleting the database and rescanning which should also use the filesystem timestamps. No luck either way. I believe this is a GMMP issue since Poweramp has no problem with seeing the SD card and also had no trouble using the filesystem timestamps.

I’ve never seen this issue on 3 different LG phone devices, nor on my iBasso DX160 DAP. I have run updates, and fresh installs after running clean OS updates. I have used A8 through A10 without issue. I am have not used anything from A11 or higher as these issues from the forced SAF have kept me from doing so.

Right? To navigate this; Settings>Scanner>Edit Scan Paths 1. Press the top tight icon, a folder with a "+" inside. 2. By default the internal "emulated" root folder opens to show what Android allows you to see. 3. Press the left arrow <-- at the top of the list beside where the list shows "storage" 4. This should take you back one level and show the path to the SD card, usually a pair of 4 digit hex codes with a dash in the middle (i.e. 485E-1EE9) 5. Press that path name and continue to drill down into that folder to find your main Music folder, then hit "Select" at the bottom of the screen to add it to the scanner (repeat if you have more than one main music folder) In general, a single "Music" or similarly named folder should have all of your music files. You can have additional subfolders that add layers for Artists, Year, Albums, etc. followed by the track info. Good Example: {SD card address}/Music/Beatles/Abbey Road/01 Come Together.m4a is acceptable Bad Example: {SD card address}/01 Come Together.m4a is NOT acceptableIMPORTANT NOTE! Newer versions of Android (A11+?) do NOT allow any apps to have general file access the main root folder of the internal or SD card areas. So ALL music MUST be in at least one folder under your internal or SD card main folder.
