In the Jump to Playing Menu (which appears on long press in the now playing screen) there is no "Song" entry, only artist, albumartist, album, genre and folder. In the help documents a "Song" entry is described which I really would like to have in order to find easily other version of the just playing song.
Thanks for this great player which I just have discovered and immediately bought. This is really the player I was looking for more than two years now (with albumartist support!, replay gain, gapless playback...)

Which help documents are you referring to? just to playing was a new addition and i havent written any documentation for it
by jump to song do you mean position the list in the song tab so the currently playing song is at the top?

I was sure I read somewhere that you can jump to the playing Artist/Album/Song/Genre/Folder by long pressing anywhere in the now playing screen but I don't find this (and I even remember that I was thinking that AlbumArtist is missing in this description although it is in fact implemented).
Maybe I am wrong but it would be great if "Song" could be added to the Jump to Playing menu. I have a lot of different versions of Jazz standards and often would like to see all versions of the song which is just playing. So I mean "Jump to playing song" should jump to the song tab which is filtered by the song name. That means only all versions of the just playing song are shown in the resulting song list.

i'll see what i can do.. there is really no quick way to find the location of a song in the overall song list.. so pretty much the whole list would have to be scanned until it found the one selected to jump to. While this isnt a problem for users with only a few hundred songs on their device, it is a problem for those with 10k+ songs on their device

Couldn't this be done with a search for the title of the song? The search is pretty quick and it searches for title, artist, albumartist and filename by default. And it searches for partial strings too. If the "jump to playing title" would be a search which is restricted to track title and which searches only for complete track titles which are identical (I mean a search for "fever" should not found "night fever"), it should be very quick.

I'm trying to think if it would confuse the user if it was listed with the other "Jump to playing" options as its more of a "search for similar named songs" I take it you would want a search for "fever" that didnt show "night fever" but did show "fever (blah blah remix/version)" ? and would it be limited to the same artist?

I would prefer that a search for "fever" should ONLY show "fever" and neither "night fever" nor "fever (bla...)". How should GMMP know that the "fever (blah blah remix/version)" is a remix of the the same song? If it would find "fever (blah...) it would also find "fever in my eyes" which has nothing to do with the song fever. So it would be better to restrict the results really to identical track titles.
But the results should not be limited to the same artist. Then you would find only the identical song which may be on different compilations or studio and live versions of one artist. I would like to find all versions of this song independently of the performer. In this way you will find all cover versions of a song (and of course also live versions of the original artist). Especially Jazz standards are recorded by many different Jazz artists and if I hear for example "Summertime" I would be able to find easily all versions of this song.

hm.. it seems like a fairly uncommon use case (multiple versions of the same song with the same artist and same song name). It also doesnt seem to follow with the rest of the Jump to Playing since it does something completely different
a quick search feature might be a better fit

For me it's not an uncommon use. I have hundreds of songs in different versions from different artists. As I explained this is totally common for jazz standards. But also rock or pop songs exist in different cover versions.
And for me a Jump to Playing Genre, resulting in a list of songs having the same genre, is the same as Jump to Playing Song, resulting in a list of songs having the same title. Would it be better to name it Jump to Playing Title?

well jump to genre goes to the genre tab and selects the genre of the playing song, jump to artist goes to the artist tab and selects the playing artist, jump to album goes to the album tab and selects the playing album. They all are ways to quickly navigate in the app.. so a jump to playing song following this paradigm would switch to the song tab and position the list so the currently playing song is at the top of the view.
So hopefully you can see how running a search for the same artist and track name seems completely different from the other jump to playing options

Thanks for the explanation. Now I understand why you say it is different. I interpreted the Jump to Playing more as a filter, so Jump to Playing Song would jump to the track list filtered by the playing track title.
Wouldn't it be possible to create a smart playlist to get a list of tracks having the same title as the playing track. For this you would only need a variable (let's e.g. say %pl% for playing) in the definition of a smart playlist. With this variable you could create a smart playlist for "Track is equal to %pl%" which means "Track is equal to the currently playing track". Depending on which tag is selected for the smart playlist %pl% would always mean the currently playing track, album, artist and so on.
I have no idea if this is complicated to realize. Of course I can use the search feature but then I always have to type in the title in the search box, or what did you mean with a quick search feature?

Ok, that would also be a good solution. I want really to thank you for your great support. I have never seen a developer responding so quickly and detailed (and patient ;D) to my questions. Such a great program AND such a great support. What else can you desire?
