The next track takes forever to load, like maybe 18 seconds before i can change tracks. Any way to preload the next track faster?

the next track is preloaded the instant the current track starts playing. Do you have crossfade set to a really long time?

Crossfade is turned off. I'm assuming i just have too much music. I have current track and next track showing on screen with the metadata settings. When i change to the next track, for about 18 seconds, current track and next track show the same thing, after 18 seconds or so, the next track correctly shows up then i can change the track. I'm running Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra One UI 3.1, Android Version 11. Sometimes you just want to immediately change the track, but i have to wait. Running GMMP Version 3.2.2

Running GMMP Version 3.2.2 Update to the latest 3.2.x there was a bug with the tab navigation regarding changing tracks that was fixed

another tip that i need to document is to remove the "Songs" tab if you have a large library and it will improve performance. I'd imagine a track list of 20k+ tracks is mostly useless and those large library users use the search to get to specific tracks. Whenever a track is played or skipped and the playcount/skipcount is increased, the track list will update itself (all the library views auto monitor and refresh when the database changes) which can end up being a very large database query and can slow things up

That is very helpful and a hopeful solution. I will try.

Similar to what GoneMAD has suggested for songs, this is another list you may not often use without a search and has many items in a larger library. The other option is to switch to Drawer navigation, and these updates no longer apply. Next/Prev are much faster, even on my older and slower Android 8.1 device in this mode.

I removed the Artist tab, had to effect to my problem. I'll try the drawer option.

Switching to the Drawer Navigation is a little better. The only problem i have is when i open the drawer, select genre, for instance, it'll then go to the tab view to choose the genre. It'll take a long time. Once it loads, it'll work a little better. It seems like the tab view has a problem with it. But if i choose "shuffle all songs", i have to be real patient.

how big of a library are we talking about? I have a device with 50k+ tracks with no issue now. Did you update to 3.2.3 or 3.2.4?

Ah. Yeah with that much it's probably hitting the limits of the Android sdk. Have you tried gonemad classic? That has less overhead and might be able handle 100k+ better. It's just pretty outdating looking unfortunately. 3.x is a full rewrite using the more modern apis
Once I add better external storage support I should be able to test against 120k+ and possibly can improve performance. 400gb is currently the max storage I have in any of my devices

I've used all versions of GMMP. It seems like it's working better now. Hopefully you can support bigger files in the future. Thank you
