Greetings and hello. i got myself the full version of GoneMad a while ago but having a specific issue with playlists. (currently on version 3.1.3)
my ideal setup would be a library where the scanner just adds new files from a specific path and playlist files being seperated and excluded from the library, but still playable from the playlist menu option.
if i add my playlist folder to the scanner path the library gets flooded with artists with mostly only one song, that's quite annoying and when i don't add the playlist folder to the scanner paths, those files won't be played with blanked out metadata in the player.
so my question, is it possible to have a setup for one of the following scenarios:
- Seperate folder for library files and playlist files, but the playlist files still being playable
- Scan all paths but exclude the files within the playlist folder from the library
thanks and i appreciate the work.

The contents of a playlist need to be in the library to be played back. Thats just how things were designed (the queue is stored in the db)
3.2 fixes the blanked out metadata (in beta currently.. might have to do a delete db -> full rescan), but yea if you play a playlist its going to scan the files in the db if they arent in there already. My suggestion would be to use a consistent albumartist tag for all your "singles" and view via the albumartist view instead of the artist view. This is how users with compilations / various artists / dj mixes typically organize their music, because yea no one wants to pollute the list with a bunch of single songs artists

thank you for the quick reply. i'm not sure how the database file is structured but does it save the path aswell? and if so would a "hide files from this path in library" be sort of a workaround in the future?
re-tagging multiple playlists seems like quite the effort and this only really is an issue on mobile for me. The other "workaround" i used until now was to create a playlist without all the files from my playlist folder, but then i have to delete and recreate it every time a new file gets added.
anyway, really like GoneMad and will use it regardless going forward.

A decent tag editor on a PC will take care of the AlbumArtist tag update pretty quickly. Maybe even in just one or two runs if most are for “single” tracks that’s would all fall under one tag like “Various Artists” or “Singles” etc. Adding all tracks to the library at that point makes it much easier to browse, and your playlists will remain completely intact. Win-win I would think.

Smart playlists can be pinned as tabs, so you could essentially recreate all the library views as smart playlists to replace the existing ones examples: create a smart playlist with one rule: filename "doesnt begin with" (or "doesnt contain", but that is a bit slower) /Path/to/playlist and then set the group by to whatever you want it to list (artists, albums, etc). Save then click the 3 dot menu and select 'pin to library' The smart playlist functionality is insanely powerful if you know what you are doing

Thank you very much again, both of you. the smartlist approach seems very promising so far, looking forward to the new updates!
