In the artist / album artist views, is there any option to use album artwork as the artist artwork? For a lot of my music, artist artwork is either not found at all, or what is found is wrong (or just not useful to me). I have all my music tagged with embedded album art; I would like to have GMMP grab the artwork from an album (any album, any track would be fine with me) to use as the artist image.

running a manual artist art search (from the artwork settings) will fall back to album art if it cannot find anything. This wont happen on the initial scanning of the artist / music but manual scans after its in the library well Initial scan bug is tracked here: trello.com/c/I8n6XRUDShowing album art in the individual artist manual search UI is tracked here: trello.com/c/tcSzlbXw

Is there an option for when it *does* find artwork, but it's wrong? Is that what the second bug/feature tracker would allow?

if its finds something wrong then you can manually correct it (which would be the 2nd link). The only "wrong" artwork found would be on an online search. Local file system searching for images is well defined so that if images are put in the correct location and your music is tagged correctly its not going to find the wrong art

Thanks, that helps a lot. I extracted album covers to "artist.jpg" files under each artist folder (parent folder as described in #1). However, it seems that gmmp prefers its image cache over the in-folder image. After I deleted all the image files in the cache, deleted the database, and rescanned, most of my files are showing correctly.
However, some artist images still aren't displayed. They seem to be in cases where the artist name does not exactly match the folder name. I have avoided characters like / and & in folder structure, so the group "20/20" is found in the folder "20-20", and Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers in a folder "Art Blakey - The Jazz Messengers".
It also seems a bit odd that although I have both the "auto download artwork" and "search internet" options unchecked, when I go to the artist artwork selector, it still shows images labeled as "internet" and/or "fanart.tv".

artists with special characters are tough to deal with. but from both art selectors you can open any image in the gallery / standard android image selector and select it. Its one of the toolbar options

For an Artist field with anything separated with a “/“ the Artist Art either fails, or in some cases if it does populate it seems to use the name following the last slash. Usually the main performer is listed first, so this should be the preference I would think.
I.e. if Artist is tagged as “Beatles/Rolling Stones/Led Zeppelin” the search is either failing (shows just a tile with two letters “Be”) or in some cases the image shows Led Zeppelin. But expected result should be Beatles. Or ideally an image with all three artists? Of course this is complicated by the usual suspects AC/DC, Love/Hate, +/- but hopefully other than these exceptions you can come up with a solution to target the first one?

album artist is used for the image search and only if that field is not populated will the artist field be searched. GMMP does not support the / delimiter so its going to send the whole string to the image search. Its up to the search api to return.
I recommend just tagging your music to use semicolon delimiters (im not sure the result of the image search but it should at least only use one of the artists for the search). Despite / being supported for multiple tags in the id3 spec, the semicolon is more commonly used. I am pretty sure mp3tag, musicbrainz picard, beets, etc all use semicolon or comma. Comma is a poor choice since plenty of bands have commas in their actual name. While i'll eventually support custom delimiters, its not happening any time soon

While i'll eventually support custom delimiters, its not happening any time soon I did a full swap for ; from / in my library for the fields: Artist, AlbumArtist, ArtistSort, AlbumArtistSort. I agree , is probably not a great choice. Deleted the database and did a full new scan after reloading my SD card with the updates. I can't believe I didn't notice this feature before now. Sorry for the oversight and lack of testing in the alpha and beta stages. With the Artists all properly separated now, not only does it make browsing easier, but the Artist artwork search is resolved as well. So - many thanks for having this integrated already. Such a powerful and elegant player. And even after working with it for so long, finding new features like this just takes it to a whole new level.
