Currently GMMP sorts artist by the "artist" tag. Which on the face of it seems fine, except there is a specific tag "sort artist" for customising the sort order of artists (and another "sort album" for re-ordering albums, etc), and this tag is ignored. So any customisations made here do not work in GMMP.
A few of the artists in my library start with unusual letters, such as a letter with an accent on it, or with the letter Æ. Currently these artists are sorted to the very bottom of the library, below Z, which is a bit annoying. As this behaviour is consistent across all my media players, I use the "sort artist" tag to fix it, by changing Æ to AE for example. This ensures the artists get sorted where you expect to find them, while still displaying the actual artist name correctly, and this works in all my various media players except for GMMP. In GMMP I still get these artists sorted to the bottom of the pile, and no apparent way of changing this.
I would like it very much if GMMP would start recognising these tags.

gmmp does not read any of those tags. There are tons of requests on trello for reading various tags that i'll eventually get to but my priority is on working on 3.0. trello.com/b/JCyp2kas/gonemad-music-player-developmentI would like to eventually rewrite the whole tag code and make it so gmmp can support any arbitrary tag instead of just the ones i've specific chose to support

Didn’t see this listed on Trello yet. But using the sort tags also helps to ignore the issue with fields starting with “A”, “An”, and “The” in lists. In the case suggested by the OP, using the sort tags for Album, AlbumArtist, Artist, and Title fields would really be a significant step for having all lists appear as preferred by each user as they prefer, as long as they are using the sort fields appropriately. It would be great if this can get added in the future, once you have the other planned 3.0 features up and running.

Thanks I’ll take another look. This is an audio player library feature no other Android app has to date that I am aware of. But iOS devices have been using it for a long time. Hoping at some point it gets added, but not a deal breaker. Thanks for consideration.

Necromancing this feature request (#sorrynotsorry) in the hope that it can be incorporated into an upcoming release.
With the above mentioned quirks that Sort Order tags would help fix (i.e. accent marks, ligature characters, definite/indefinite articles), plus several others (e.g. Roman numerals, natural sort order for Arabic numbers), GMMP could be the only Android music player that recognizes these tags—it might seem like a niche thing, but wouldn't it be nice to have another good thing that sets this app apart from all the rest?

no new tags are planned for 3.0
"I would like to eventually rewrite the whole tag code and make it so gmmp can support any arbitrary tag instead of just the ones i've specific chose to support", its just not a priority

would love to see this implemented. completely understand if it's still not a priority. thank you! Sort tags for AlbumArtist, Album, Artist, and Composer were added quite a while ago now. I believe Titlesort was a bigger issue, so hasn’t been added yet. These can be used with the sorting menu icon at the top of each list.
