I own a Moto g (5) Plus running Android 7.0 with the Amazon mods. I created two Playlists. I wanted to copy them to my PC. I located them in the Playlist folder under the gmmp folder on the internal storage. I only really play one of the two, but I noticed that the m3u file for that one showed it to be 0 bytes. I copied it anyway, and sure enough it was empty of content. But the playlist plays fine on my device and I can edit and add to it and the changes are saved (somewhere). I renamed the playlist and while it changed in the gmmp app, it did not change the name of the m3u file in the playlist folder (and it still shows zero bytes).
All of my music files are in a folder on an SD card. I’m performed a search of the entire device, but only found the two m3u files in the gmmp playlist folder. I’m confused. Any thoughts?

that is an odd one. The playlist file has to have contents if it shows up with songs in gmmp (gmmp reads straight from the file). I am wondering if you tried copying it while the playlist file was still opened by gmmp? Renaming in app wont change the filename.. it just changes the name in gmmp's database for the playlist file. Perhaps try backing out / exiting gmmp completely before copying the file. Also on the device itself.. use a file manager to create a copy of the m3u file.. then rename the copy to .txt and open it on the device with a text editor. MTP transfers are pretty bad with android so that might be it ( alot of times what you see in windows explorer is outdated vs whats on the device.. i've renamed files before and windows explorer refuses to find the new file until i reconnect my usb cable)

I actually had that thought (m3u playlist file might be open/locked) so before writing to you I switched to the other playlist I created and started playing it and then tried to copy the original m3u file I was interested in. The result was the same. But after your reply, I rebooted the device and tried again. This time the original m3u file was still there, with zero bytes of content, but there was now a third m3u file with the "new" name/rename and it is current with all changes (which if I read your reply correctly, it should not be there). So my problem/question is resolved and I am just providing info to you as an FYI.
Thank you for your assistance,
MG

thanks.. honestly i didnt look at my code base to see what actually happened.. playlist saving is something i havent touched in years so i could be wrong and renaming the file does seem like the logical thing to do. Sounds like it was just the MTP not updating correctly.. super annoying

On the subject of Playlists I thought I saw a thread that indicated there was a way to view the duration of all songs (in total) for a specific playlist, but I can't seem to find it now or figure out how to do it if it is possible. Can you point me to the info needed to understand how to do that?

Never mind, I found it - start the playlist and then go to Queue
