I am using the full/unlocked version of GoneMad Music Player, version 2.0.22-2.0.26. I am using an LG G Vista phone (model# LG-D631) with Android version 5.0.2.
Before GoneMad's latest update, I was able to edit music tags within the app with no trouble. After the update, however, I was unable to edit any tags. When I first tried to save a tag, a popup dialog requested access to the root of my SD card (where my music is kept within a folder or two). So I selected the root of my SD card, but when I tried to save the tag afterward, a loading dialog popped up ("Editing Tags...") and never stopped loading until I forced the app to close. In the end, the tag was totally unchanged. I've reset the app data multiple times trying to get the tag editor to work, but I always end up with the same problem. Is there anything I can do to make it work again?

well nothing actually changed in the code that edits the tags.. if the "editing tags" pop up is staying up that it sounds like its just having trouble writing to your card.. perhaps the card is starting to die? Any errors/failures would result in the pop up going away and an error message showing up.. however if it just stays up indefinitely that usually indicates bad storage

Okay, I just tried it again, and it does edit the tags EVENTUALLY. Before the update (before I had to tell the app where the root of the SD card was) I could edit tags almost instantly, whereas now it takes anywhere between 30 sec to 5 minutes, depending on the size of the album/song I'm editing. So I have absolutely no idea what happened. Maybe the new update dug up some unseen bugs in the old code??? Like I would know.
As for the SD card, I could be wrong, but I don't feel like that's where the issue lies. For info's sake, the card's a SanDisk Ultra 32 GB Micro-SD card that I've owned for almost a year, and I've had absolutely no issues with it in the past. Its storage right now is 23.06 GB / 29.71 GB (the phone's internal storage is currently 3.65 GB / 3.96 GB, but I don't know if that has anything to do with it). I mean, it's always taken a while for me to move my apps from the phone memory to the SD card, but I always assumed that was to do with the Android software and the size of the files, not the SD card itself. Same with transferring music from my computer to my phone.
In a nutshell, I have completely no idea, but (unless there's a solution) I guess I'm fine with using a really slow tag editor for now. Thank you for your insight - without it, I probably wouldn't have tried again to find that the tag editor still works, just very very slowly.

Well the difference is the file is opened via androids storage api vs direct file access. I am really shocked there is any performance differences between the 2 (i didnt notice any on my test devices). Google has added tons of restrictions to the direct file access which is why the change was made. I am wondering if the storage api is doing something stupid like transfering the file to an internal storage cache.. editing it.. and then copying it back to your sdcard. That would certainly explain why its so slow.
Do you have a rooted device? (curious how you were able to edit tags before since you are on lollipop)
I might be able to put in a storage api bypass for those who were always able to edit tags. The logic is still there because its used in kitkat and earlier

No, my device is not rooted. The software info says it's also Kernel version 3.4.0+, but I have no idea if that has any bearing on in this situation.

LG must have decided to not lock down that phone

Im new to gonemad, coming from blackplayer ex. I want to edit or combine some genre names. For instance alternative and alternative rock, I would like to make 1 genre category. I edited the tag within the gonemad app on my android, but am having trouble saving the edit. I long press and short press the old computer disc icon. and nothing seems to be saving the change. Please help me.

mass tag edits can take awhile and are done in the background. it might take awhile to be reflected in app
