It seems to be a problem with the latest audio codecs? Until / before update, the gmmp worked without any problems (Android 4.4.2). With the latest update (update or completely re-install) I have problems with all my audio files (MP3 tested / FLAC not yet). During playback, I can hear a crackle / noisy sound all the time... You wrote that you changed the whole audio engine / audio codec... Any chance to use an older version of gmmp? Where can I download an older version until the problem is fixed? Thanks for helping /edit I can reproduce the problem. It seems, the equalizer is the trouble maker. BEFORE update, there was NO problem to use the highest settings. AFTER update, I can hear the crackle sound when I use the highest settings. BEFORE re-install, I made a backup of the EQ settings (incl. restore after re-install), maybe here is the problem to find. As next, I will delete all the EQ settings and re-install the gmmp. /edit 2 EQ settings deleted, re-install of the app does not fix the problem. It seems the EQ does not work with the latest audio engine, because no settings are okay, but if I use one of the settings such rock / pop or another, I can hear the crackle sound again - 10 bands with setting HIGH and HIGHEST (quality). The EQ worked before with 10 bands / HIGHEST quality without ANY problems! Standard setting seems to be okay. HIGH and HIGHEST quality setting is not usable anymore - 5 bands or 10 bands... always I can hear the crackle sound

leave the beta (its 2.0.10 beta.. not b) and go back the regular version. you should be following the google plus to get updates on this stuff. If you are part of the beta you are a tester and stuff like this will happen.
I updated the ndk to build the audioengine and it did cause the cracking you mention but i had thought i fixed it. Since you say high and highest have issues, does the default play back at normal? I will admit i did not test high/highest at all, so i recommend just changing it back to default until it can fixed.. the quality is really not much different

Hi gonemad. It seems the normal EQ setting is working fine. Only the high and highest settings are affected by this issue (all bands). And yes, I can hear the difference between normal and highest setting. The sound is much clearer and better.

Thanks. and i should note that the eq quality settings have nothing to do with the clarity of the sound, it just means it will more accurately reflect the band gain changes applied. IE at normal quality if you boost the 8khz band, it is going to also influence 4khz and 12khz bands as well and to an even lesser extent the 2khz and 24khz, where as the higher quality settings tighten that range.
