Hey M8,
I am trying to create a smart playlist, the playlist is made up of several different artists of my choice. I created the smart list with a title, order by Artist, Match Any Rule and then one by one added a line for Artist, Contains and the the "Artist name" of my choice. But this produces a list with only two artist and not the 12 I progrmmed. tried both equals and contains, no difference in result
Can I list all artists in one field sepersted by ; or something?
Cheers Steve

It works correctly for me. Be sure the artists do not contain an extra space after their name. I originally only had one artist show up until removed the trailing spaces

Thanks. That was the problem. dont know why there was empty space after the names I entered, guess an android keyboard thing.

I have been trying to get this to work with no luck will not populate at all, can do a single artist but ; is not working as a separator.
There are no leading spaces have tried with a several artists even those with no spaces and nothing works.

You need a rule for every artist

Ah misunderstood what was working in second post, been trying to combine artist selection and rating in a smart playlist and sadly does not work with multiple artist entries.

There very well could be a limit on the number of rules. A smart playlist is just turned into one long sql statement used to query the database. I've never reached a limit but sqlite/android might have one.

Yeah the problem I run into is when I add the rating entry it pulls all songs match it not just the artists entered.
Presumably because it has to be match any rule.

ah yea that would be because its set to match any rule. Eventually i'd like more complex logic ie: (A or B) and C, but that becomes tricky to do a good UI for on a mobile device

I would like to support the idea of more complex logic for smart playlists. I would like to dynamically create a playlist containing several genres (Rock/pop .or. Smooth jazz .or. Soft rock) AND a minimum rating (three stars or higher). I could also accomplish this goal by being able to list several genres (using a specified separating character) in one rule and the minimum rating in another rule.
I understand the potential difficulty of handling complex logic in a small UI like a phone. Perhaps one way to implement more complex language would be to allow a smart playlist to specify another playlist as a starting point. That way, I could have one playlist that selects by genre and a second playlist that combines the first playlist and a minimum rating.

Basically the ability to AND/OR 2 smart playlists together. While its a nice idea i dont see myself getting back to improving smart playlists anytime soon. There is an entry on the trello board for it tho. trello.com/c/juvmbuzT
