I'm having minor issue with metadata being sent to Media Utilities from GoneMad.
GoneMad seems to send the Album Artist tag instead of the Artist tag to MU. This means if I have a compilation album tagged as compilation for the Album Artist MU receives "compilation" as the artist instead of the actual artist playing.
Other players I have tried send the artist tag rather than the album artist tag to MU. Is there a setting I may have missed?

what is media utilities? GMMP does not broadcast out album artist.. only artist. Album artist is only used for the default grouping in the artist tab and will display in now playing if the user sets it up to show that field

media utilities is a (free) program that gathers metadata from music players which can be sent to other programs like zooper and tasker, so that you can create your own widgets, among other things.
It appears if I leave the album artist blank then the artist metadata is displayed but if I tag the album artist then that is displayed instead. I use the tag editor within GMMP.
Just tried some more testing, tasker integration displays the correct info but MU doesn't.

You will most likely have to file a bug report with the media utilities developer. I have no idea how MU is getting the playing information from gmmp. Everything gmmp broadcasts contains the artist and not the album artist and the notification lists the artist as well.
Looking through the gmmp code, the only thing I can think of that includes album artist that it might be taken from is when populating the lockscreen music controls information. The Album artist field is set to the album artist, and the artist field is set to the artist.. even if that is the case.. MU is the one that is showing the albumartist instead of the artist

Thanks, it's a bit of a strange one, GMMP seems to be the only player I've tried that does it, but it's only a minor issue for such a great player.
Any chance of a coverart only (no metadata or controls) widget?

its not too surprising. GMMP is one of the only players that fully supports the album artist tag. Most other players either are not populating the album artist tag or just putting in the artist instead. I would file a bug report with MU

I'm putting this question here because it may be related to what your talking about.
If I want to shuffle all songs across a single artist, I go to artist>all songs. The problem is that if I have an artist on a various artists compilation album, it then plays all the songs on the album, including the songs by other artists. Is there a way for me to fix it so I just play the songs from the one artist I selected?

In the artist tab go to menu -> and select artist.. this puts it into artist mode instead of album artist mode. Album artist mode assumes that if the album artist is set to Artist A.. the whole album is by Artist A. That is the point of the album artist tag. Artist mode only lists/plays songs with the same artist tag and not the whole album

Thanks! For the answer and the quickness of it.
I'm a fairly new user and have really been enjoying the app on my Galaxy SIII. Knowing how this works will make it even better for me.
