I dont know what you changed in the latest updates, but the player is unusable now. This week it has crashed over 60 times! and never shows any information in the error log. Happens when listening to playlist or just albums or shuffle all. Cant work it out.
Can you please send a link to the file prior to 1.4, i want to downgrade, things were fantastic for so long with my player until 1.4
Cheers Steve

1.4.15.1 is the stablest of them all for 1.4.x.. sometimes updates get corrupt (blame the android installer) and you need to uninstall and then reinstall.. this is out of my control...
legacy versions are posted on the the top of the general discussion section (1.3.22, 1.2.7, and 1.1.17)

also the log will never show anything after a crash.. you need to send in the error report when it pops up.. otherwise the data is lost
i have not seen any bug reports of new issues so you most likely just have a corrupt install

I had already done 2 fresh installs, just did it again. Scanner has a few problem to start, first couple of scans says found 2 tracks and stops, also found 0 tracks and stops. Checked the scan path which was correct, but to test I deleted the paths and chose the same one again and 4th scan it found all the tracks
When the player crashes and I restart it very often I can not do anything before it immediately crashes again. I then have to reboot my machine and start gmmp again.
I have just sent my database to you, could you check and see if there are any problems
thanks

you will need to download catlog or alogcat and get me logs of the crashing (and email them to me). I have 45 devices that GMMP is tested on and things work perfect on all of them. There is an issue with the scanner with folders with .. in the name but i've fixed that locally
What device do you have?

Just downloaded alogcat, will have a look how it works. And yes I am still using my shitty Archos 70it

alogcat should have a way to send/share logs.. I use catlog personally since I can just load it up and hit share and it emails it.. but i think alogcat has something similar

So I changed to the Android 1.6-2.0: Direct Download (PRE-2.1) and am still experiencing the same problem, and going back to 1.3.22 is also giving other problems.

sounds like its an issue your device then? if 1.3.22 has issues

1.3.22 is unstable for me but 1.3.6 seems much better, one random crash of the machine so far.
I dont think it was the device causing problems with 1.3.22 just the software

well its definitely your device.. it just doesnt have enough memory for the newer versions (or you started using more apps causing the free memory to decrease)
anyway if you want a specific version from 1.3.x let me know.. i have an archive of every release

What was the final 1.3.x version, was it 1.3.6? If not a link to the latest one would be great. I recently have removed all apps from my tablet, I only use it for gmmp, which is why I would be confused about running out of memory

1.3.22 was the latest in 1.3.x .... which is why i linked it
the crash logs sent were completely random and at points during first startup at an app (in parts of code that are rock solid on 45+ devices).. next to nothing is done on startup so if it was crashing there the only logical reasoning would be its running out of memory. When a device is out of memory.. it will crash when trying to allocate memory for an object
It may not be memory but it is definitely your device.. i'll be the first to admit when there are bugs in the code i wrote but nothing that i've seen would lead to me believe that was the case. Much of the work in 1.4.x was to just fix bugs so if anything it would be more stable. I've added new features which would increase memory use.. but nothing too major.
Archos is also not known for being the greatest when it comes to stable operating systems / software

I also have an Archos 70 (hard drive version) and the last half a dozen updates have produced a stuttering pause that lasts for a second and then resumes, it's not every song but enough to be extremely annoying. It's the tablet itself as my Samsung tablet has no problem at all playing back anything. It's a shame as I like the large capacity of the Archos but the software it runs constantly crashes. I did have problems earlier on with Gonemad were it just crashed the Archos or more likely the Archos crashed itself. I too have removed all apps except Gonemad to reduce memory usage and it didn't help

the updates were almost all bug fixes. Nothing was changed with the playback code. If a reinstall does not fix things then I will just guess its your device starting to go. My 5IT will skip similar to what you describe and that started 2 years ago.. so its been pretty much useless to me. The pause is caused by it trying to read from the hard disk
If you can get logs of crashes I will always take a look at them and I do have an archive of every version so if there is a specific one you want to revert to just let me know
I am 99% confident there were no new bugs (that werent fixed already) introduced in the last hand full of updates that would cause skipping or cause new crashes. Memory usage might have gone up slightly (only by a few kilobytes).. so if that little extra memory usage is causing the issues then the only real solution is to revert back to an old version and stay with that one
