I am using GoneMad Version 1.4.9.4 with wma files automatically tagged by winamp (gracenote) and "album artist" tagged by hand using "mp3tag".
With the newest gonemad version i have the following problem: titles which should belong to one album (all files have the same "album artist" tag and are stored in one physical folder) are splitted to several albums depending of the "year tag" of the single titles. So one "best of Album" is for example shown as 10 different albums from 10 different years. Is this a bug or is it necessey to "retag" the year by hand? In former versions of gonemad i didn't have this effect.

yea send me an email at gonemadsoftware@gmail.com and i'll send a private build that has that fixed (and an option to ignore year)
Technically the year tag on a file is supposed to be the album year and not the song year (ie if a cd comes out in 2000, but the artist releases a cd single for a song on that album in 2001.. that song is labeled 2001 since thats the year of the cd single.. not the year that it first appeared on an album)
but yea since gracenote does that i know people use that for tagging so i had to find a solution.. the build just isnt ready to be released on google play yet

anyone else with this issue feel free to email me as well
The "auto" option for the ignore year setting i added will ignore the year on albums with "best of" "collection" "hits" "compilation" and "various artist" in the title. This is the default setting now and should handle nearly all the cases.

I've recently purchased version 1.6.6 of Gone Mad Music Player, and have a similar issue with the way that tracks from an album are split into new albums if the track year differs. I gather all of the b-sides from artists singles into a "B-Sides and Rarities" or "Bonus Tracks" album corresponding to each album, with the tracks' years determined by when that particular single came out. This means that some of those B-Sides albums are split into 2 or more albums.
Interestingly the itunes music app and Sony Walkman app both treat these albums differently (gethering by the least or first year in the album), but they still keep the tracks in one album.
Would there be any chance of adding the ability to group albums into one when the track years differ?
Other than this, I'm finding the music player fantastic.
Thanks, Ben

Thanks, Ben tag them with the same album name and put them in the same folder or have them in different folders all with the same year. Its one or the other. itunes and sony walkman will most likely incorrectly group other albums that GMMP groups correctly because of these requirements. Its pretty much impossible to satisfy all cases
