Don’t know if that’s a bug or a missing feature: Shuffle always starts with the same song. :-( Some improvements to every library view: - Add an “all” entry at the top. So you can skip (=select all) the albums after you’ve selected an artist, or the artists, after you’ve selected a genre etc.
- Make “unknown” entries written in italics (and/or in some slightly different color) and possibly sort them at the top or bottom.
- If an artist has only one album automatically skip that and show the songs.
As an option: close the volume dialog as soon as you’ve changed the volume. The Galaxy S (don’t know if other (Samsung) phones do that.) mounts the external SD card to “ /mnt/sdcard/external_sd/ “ I entered the path to my music manually but I noticed not everybody will know how to do that. Could you add folders from that path to the scanner? (I guess that selection of a path to scan needs some general improvement to make it more versatile.)

I've been wanting to do something like the "All" option to make it easier to play everything

does /mnt/sdcard/external_sd/ show up in the list of folders? Different devices seem to have different locations for their sdcard (some use /mnt/sdcard-ext/) so i switched it to just list everything in /mnt/ that has files in it. I do have it capped at going 2-3 folders deep though to prevent a super massive list.. but i could easily up that

does /mnt/sdcard/external_sd/ show up in the list of folders? It does, but that would be the whole SD card. :-( The thing is: the Galaxy S lists the external card one level deeper than one would expect. I have my music in a folder "music" on the card which is "/mnt/sdcard/external_sd/music/" on the phone. I don't know if that's a practical solution but maybe you could add all the external SD card paths you know from different manufacturers/devices as additional starting points and list it's subfolders too. I guess that could make things a lot easier for the casual user. (Or add support for Astro or some other file manager? No idea if that's even possible. Or if it would help the casual user who would have to install an additional file manager.)

my original approach was to manually put in the extra paths that i knew about.. but it seemed that there were so many variations i switched it up to the current method.
i could spend the time to make a really nice interface to choose directories, but it seems like time would be better spent elsewhere for the time being.
i may try making it go down one more level and seeing how that looks

Don’t know if that’s a bug or a missing feature: Shuffle always starts with the same song. :-( Could you make that (little?) change to the shuffle mode some day? I’m getting a little tired of some bands first song. ^^ Info: I’ve set Shuffle to “Shuffle Playlist”, “No Repeats” checked and “On Playlist Completion” set to ”Loop Playlist”. Whenever I select one Band to play (long click on its name – play) it starts with the same song. Only the following songs are in random order as expected.

its in my list of 1.1.x fixes.. but i wasnt exactly sure what you meant by it.. but i think this post clears it up.. when you have shuffle playlist on.. and pick a new folder or album to play.. it starts with the first track instead of picking a random one?
that should be easily fixable
and everything suggested does get put on my spreadsheet of things (unless its extremely stupid.. which i dont think i've had any insane requests yet)... its just prioritizing things that is difficult
