I am running GMMP 3.2.8 on a Moto G 5G Plus (Android v11). My mp3 library is on a MicroSD card, and I recently migrated it from a 512GB card to a 1TB card. I deleted the GMMP database and did a full rescan. There are now 98,000 tracks in my library.
Most of the time I use the Shuffle All mode, but since upgrading to the larger library/SD card I've noticed some glitches with GMMP in this mode: - yesterday it would repeatedly pause playback of tracks for a second or two before resuming, then eventually playback stopped completely and the UI became completely unresponsive - today while viewing the Queue (while playing in shuffle all mode), the UI would not respond to any selection from the hamburger menu on the top right, nor would it respond when I tap the "now playing" area at the bottom to view details of the current track. The top right menu (View Mode, etc) seemed to work OK. I could also scroll up and down the list. But that was all I could do.
Has anyone else had problems with large libraries on a 1TB MicroSD card?

sounds like it could a bad sdcard.
"yesterday it would repeatedly pause playback of tracks for a second or two before resuming"
This would indicate its having trouble reading from the sdcard fast enough. It could also be the fact that you are using a budget phone with 100k tracks. Dealing with a library that large is going to put a strain on the phones CPU for sure. Everything the app does is not on the UI thread, so if the UI becomes unresponsive that is usually an indication of bigger problems (like the phone isnt powerful enough)
GMMP 3.x is certainly not as performant as 2.x was. It was rewritten for maintainability and leveraging libraries that google provides + 3rd party librarys, whereas 2.x/classic had a lot of custom made stuff (mainly due to the libraries simply not existing back then). You might have better luck with GMMP classic with your use case.

Thanks for your reply. I suspect that it's the size of the library, rather than the SD card (it's a brand new Samsung SDXC - Class 10 U1). I'd say the phone is mid-range, rather than budget - £349 when it was bought. Snapdragon 765 5G, 8GB RAM.
OK I'll try v2.2.23 - is that what you meant by "classic"?

I just installed v2.2.23 and there's a bit of a problem - it won't let me add the SD card to the scan path (the "edit" option isn't available, and the browse option will only show internal storage) Is there any way of adding the SD card?

Sorry I just found the "classic" version on the Play Store, and have now managed to add the SD card. I've just started the scan....

The amount of tracks is not the problem. I have over 145,000 tracks on my sd card. Works fine, except I couldn't save the times played data, so I've deleted a lot of music, now works fine. Might be a bad sd card, maybe try formatting it then music to it again.

I think the SD card is OK. I tried playing some tracks from it on a Windows PC and there were no issues. And the card is a brand new Samsung card. The classic version of GMMP seems to be refusing to scan anything more than 88,881 tracks (of the 98,000 tracks on the card). If I select the "Start Scan" (even repeatedly) option nothing happens. Is there a library size limit with the classic version?

I think the comparison being made was versus some of the current flagship devices that are clocking in with huge processing power. Regardless, with the quantity of files you are using, the database file will be very big, and any browsing may be impacted as GMMP loads by pages as needed. Any searches and Smart playlists will also have some lag as the app has to compile all of that from this lengthy list. The processing power of your device will determine how long it takes. But I don't think this should be affecting playback of the current track selected. Unless of course the processor is still running a lot of other things in the background and the resources are strained?

My tracks are all mp3. The latest version of GMMP had no problem scanning the whole library (and did it quite quickly).

Unless of course the processor is still running a lot of other things in the background and the resources are strained? Overall performance was actually pretty good. Search results were returned virtually immediately, and UI navigation was very snappy (unlike the Classic version which I'm now trying, which is quite laggy). It just seemed to be UI glitches rather than general performance issues.
