Hey.
The following is a bit difficult to explain... hope it works out.
What I want is basically some kind of hybrid between the album view and the folder view.
The album view shows me:
- the nice cover art, the album title (as in the meta-information)
- depending on configuration, interpret and other meta-data
The folder view:
- allows me to much better organise titles (more on that below)
- but shows only the folder name, neither the nice cover art, nor other (configurable) meta-data
I'd like to have the best of both worlds ;-) ... especially with respect to this scenario:
- there are weirdos like me who zap a lot between albums from one title to the other (and not listening to one album or larger parts of it straight)... in that case, fast navigation is quite important
- I do have many albums which are not the same album, but e.g. connected, and these I want to organise in a tree structure
Consider examples like this:
Harry Potter
+-- Philosophers Stone
| +- OST
| +- LalaLand Special Edition
...
+-- Deathly Hollows
| +-- Part 1
| | +- OST
| | +- RS
| +-- Part 2
...
Or think about the many different Star Wars movies, series, etc. and for each of them all the different soundtrack editions. For E.T. I have 4 or 5 different official versions.
The above would also allow to better organise albums which have in principle not much in common... like "Marvel Cinematic Universe".
Or one could make top level folders like, Soundtracks, Classical Music, Rock, etc. .. and depending on the mood one is in, pick and browse that... and underneath each one could set up different tree structures. E.g. below Soundtracks one could organise via movies first, then perhaps via different editions... below Classical, one could organise via composer, and below Rock via Album Title.
This would of course need some meta-data and probably some file format for that, because one wants to set custom "cover art" for each folder. E.g. the Beethoven folder could get a image of Beethoven. If there is no such folder image, and the folder has directly audio files beneath it (and not in subfolders), it should then automatically take cover art from these (so that one doesn't have to set up the album art for each leaf-folder (which would correspond to a album and all it's tracks).
It may be necessary to also add some special file for the actually displayed title... cause not all filesystems allow all characters, but if that isn't present, the folder name itself should simply be used.
Some though would need to be spend on what to display for additional metadata (like artist, number of albums or so) in those folders, which are not leafs in the tree.
Obviously, that mode should also be added as alternative to album/songs/folder/etc. wherever these can be selected already, e.g. in gestures.
Thanks,
Chris.
