I wasn't able to participate in the beta testing so I'm just digging in for the first time, but so far this is fantastic. I'm not sure if this is the place for questions, but I was wondering if for the 'Use Sort Tags' feature to work does every file need to have the sort tag populated? I'm trying to use it for Album Artists, but the way my mp3s are tagged the 'sort album artist' field is only populated when it differs from the album artist. I just wanted to check to make sure I'm not missing something and before I try any mass tagging updates. I can start another thread about this if you'd prefer to not have these kinds of questions here.
Thanks for all of your hard work on this! It's been worth the wait.

i was pretty sure i already knew but I verified in the code anyway. If the tags are not present it will store whatever the non sort version of the tag is into the database. IE if you dont have an albumartist sort set.. it will use the albumartist as the albumartist sort value in the database. you are perfectly fine only adding the tags for those that diff from the reg tag.
Glad people are using some of the less commonly used capabilities!

Glad people are using some of the less commonly used capabilities! Maybe I'm doing something wrong then, because when I select 'Use Sort Tags' for album artists the order doesn't change. When I look at the Tag Editor for the album artists that have different sort values I see them there (e.g Apple, Fiona) so it seems to be reading the tags correctly. The order of the album artists just stays the same as when I have 'None' selected. Maybe there's some other setting I'm missing?

if you upgraded from 2.x you might need to delete the database and rescan.
I mentioned this in my blog post regarding the new supported tags:
"NOTE: If upgrading from 2.x, some of these new tags might not fully work until you delete the database and rescan. I tried to make the update painless but this was one area that I noticed some things not being picked up."

Very nice update. Thank you. Something I noticed when casting to Chromecast: it plays fine a few songs in my list, it then suddenly stops playing but still connected. If I hit play, nothing happens. If I hit play multiple times it eventually shows a toast "cast:failed". If I disconnect from the chromecast and then connect it works until it happens again. Can you look into it?.
Regards

Just want to say amazing work on this music player. I'd never used anything as impressive as this, even before the huge 3.0 update. So far I only have one bug to report, and that's when sorting existing playlists by artist, it tends to crash the app about half the time for me.
Edit: It seems to be mainly on sorting larger playlists. If I sort the playlist by another category first, and then finally by artist it works properly again.

"cheats" to speed up performance that was not heavily tested so its not too surprising there are some issues

Regards so the cast api is not the greatest but if you can reproduce it fairly consistently, generate a logcat and email it in gonemadmusicplayer.blogspot.com/2014/07/how-to-get-logcat-system-log-to-help.html gonemadmusicplayer.blogspot.com/2014/07/how-to-get-logcat-system-log-to-help.html[/a] and i can look at it. Casting is mostly on google's end. GMMP basically points the cast api to a url where it can download the song and art from gmmp, and the chromecast does the rest. for the record casting has always worked fine for me so its probably something device specific

I will add that when I look at the Tag Editor for an album artist that does NOT have a separate sort tag in the file, the Album Artist Sort Order field is blank. I assumed this was because there was no actual sort field in the mp3 file, but looking again at your description of how the code works maybe it was supposed to be filled in with the album artist on scan?

First of all, congratulations on the release of version 3.0, it looks really nice. I have a problem however that prevents me from upgrading. In my current phone the scanner randomly stops scanning and starts again. This also happened on version 2.x. I looked for information on how to solve the issue but found no solution. I can work around the issue in version 2.x if I select the option "Only scan new files". The scanner will restart a couple of times but will eventually finish when there are no more new files. The option is sadly gone from version 3.0, so the scanner will never finish. Please bring back the option or make scanning only new files the default behavior. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the new version! It looks great and I'm specifically liking the customizable metadata! One thing I struggle with though, is changing the size of the actual list items themselves. For example, I like a rather small font size for my artist list, but if I customize the metadata and pick a smaller size, the items are still spaced the same distance vertically, but just with smaller letters. Could you somehow add functionality to change the size of these list items, so that setting a smaller font size and smaller vertical spacing results in a more compact view, with more artist fitting on one screen?

The option to play on select seems to be missing, or at least I can't find it anywhere. When I click on a playlist, I want it to play right away, I don't need to select from a context menu. This was on the previous version, will it be included in 3.0 at some point or am I missing it?

Advanced Settings -> Library -> On Select * for the queue its Advaned Settings -> Library -> Queue -> On Select *
