Yes, the buzzing has always been there, I just forgot to mention it before. It hasn't just started with the latest version.
I do use the equalizer but only the Android one. I have a fairly low powered phone and I find the music skips if I use the better one.
I have just tried switching the equalizer off and it makes no difference.

while i dont know what would be causing the buzzing.. i did fix it so crossfade will work when going back to a previous track or selecting a new artist/album/song/folder from one of the library views. It will be in the next update (1.1.9)

The changes to crossfading in the latest version seemed to have stopped the buzzing when changing via the album menu or the skip backwards button. I did have the app force close several times when using the skip back button at first, but it seems ok at the moment. Possibly just coincidence and nothing to do with the changes.
Still get the buzzing when crossfade is switched off, but not really a problem as can just leave the crossfade on.
I know nothing of how these things work so forgive me if this is absolute rubbish. The buzzing seems to relate to the music being played. i.e.. loud music=big buzz, quiet music=small buzz and whilst not exactly in tune there is obviously some relationship to pitch. High pitched music=high pitched buzz etc.
It's almost as though the file is being read in advance, ahead of the actual playing position and kept in some kind of cache and when tracks are changed it is dumping the whole cache in a fraction of a second through the speakers. Now that might be complete nonsense but that's what it sounds like as there is definitely a link between the music being played and the volume/pitch of the buzz.

be sure to send in crash reports if you do get the force closes
your thoughts on the buzzing sound reasonable. With crossfade disabled, what happens when you change tracks is the following
1) Playback is forced to stop for the current AudioTrack. (I stop feeding the OS audio data and tell it to stop playback even if it still has a little audio data left) 2) The new file is loaded 3) Playback is started with a new AudioTrack
With crossfade enabled the following happens: The new track is loaded and I mix the audio data from the old track with the new track and feed that to the same AudioTrack for X amount of seconds. Once that transition is done, the old track is closed.
So from the sounds of it.. the process of stopping the audiotrack causes it to unload the remaining audio it has in its buffer/cache all at the same time.
What device do you have?

I have been using it quite a lot today and no more force closes. It may just have been a rarity or maybe the phone was doing something else in the background and couldn't cope with two things at once.
I do have a fairly low spec device. Its an HTC Wildfire S phone. I had to play around with all the settings to get it working without the music skipping but generally it's working great now.
