Hi,i have folders with many mp3 tracks from various artists inside, many of the tracks have embedded artwork inside the .mp3 file but many others don't have artwork at all.
The problem is this : For some reason all the no-artwork mp3 files ''adopt'' artwork from a random file that had embedded artwork and was probably on the same folder.
I never see the gmmp logo image that is supposed to be used when there is no artwork on a file.
This happens not only with the latest version of gmmp,i have this behavior since i bought the app years ago.But it is so annoying and i have to solve this finally.
Any ideas? I use the playstore version of the app

gmmp will use any image in the folder the music is located in, so if you have a bunch of random songs in a folder you want to make sure there are no images in that folder
also if your music isnt tagged very well they could get grouped up in the same album and if any files in that album have embedded art, that will get used for all the tracks in the album. So you want to make sure your music has a correct album tag if they are going to be thrown together in the same folder. If a song is a single and not on an album, i strongly recommend just using the song name as the album title. GMMP uses tags + folder to determine how they will be grouped. Basically you have to either have your music organized well in different folders or have all your music in the same folder tagged well enough that GMMP can split them up.

I don't have any images in the folders that i have my mp3s
I have 30.000 mp3s in my drive categorized in folders of 20-100 tracks each.No albums, all files are from different artists.
I only want the ''filename'' displayed in the player,i don't use tags at all and hide them on all player views.
Of course tagging 30.000 files x lets say 5 min each on the procedure (wont even count finding artwork for the no artwork ones) = 150.000 minutes = 2500h = 105 days,so re-tagging isn't a realistic option.
Why can't the player just use a generic image when there is no embedded artwork?
The player shouldn't just use a random embedded image from another mp3 file.I can't understand the logic..
So what is the solution?

"The player shouldn't just use a random embedded image from another mp3 file.I can't understand the logic.."
Its not doing anything random. I explained the logic on choosing art in my previous response and you don't have your music tagged so everything that is happening makes sense. Using something like musicbrainz picard can auto tag everything without much effort
"So what is the solution?"
If you disable the multi folder albums then you should at least get an album per folder
"The player shouldn't just use a random embedded image from another mp3 file.I can't understand the logic.."
Every album gets artwork that will show when a song from that album is played. If you are unwilling to tag your music or organize the folder structure by album, or accept that the artwork may be wrong, then gmmp is not for you. I'm sure thats not the response you want to hear but if you cant meet the minimum requirements for the app to function how you want it to, there is no other option

can't you just make the player display a generic image when no artwork is found? your problem is your music is being grouped into albums with other music with artwork since they arent tagged and in the same folder. Now playing shows the artwork of the associated album. If an album has no artwork, then now playing will just not show any art

can't you just make the player display a generic image when no artwork is found? You could always turn off the album art display completely. Seems with the lack of tags and artwork in your library it isn't all that important to you. Look in the Now Playing context menu for that option.

But is it so difficult to just display a generic image when no artwork is found? Is the build of the app so strictly tag depended? Maybe it may have been a convenience programming wise,i don't know, but given the example, its not such an effective way after all.Its kind of a weird method that you chose. Don't get me wrong,i know how time consuming programming is,but in the end its not a free app and nowhere in the playstore app description is mentioned that the app is so tag depended to display the correct artwork.. (or no artwork where no artwork can be found)

"Is the build of the app so strictly tag depended?" Yes. That's how the app was designed. I gave you a few options, including one that auto tags all your music picard.musicbrainz.org/"Don't get me wrong,i know how time consuming programming is,but in the end its not a free app and nowhere in the playstore app description is mentioned that the app is so tag depended to display the correct artwork.. (or no artwork where no artwork can be found)" There is a free 2 week trial where users can make sure it meets their needs before purchasing. I dont work on this app for a living (would be the equivalent of making well under minimum wage if i did) and cannot cater to every single user request.. especially ones that would require a change in design that i dont agree with.

You complain about the quality of display when most of your music has no embedded album art. Then you suggest you have 30k songs but most don't have any decent kind of tags and you aren't happy with the sorting. Sounds to me like you have a mess of a library and expect a music player app to be a magic solution to fixing it for you. Maybe a good start would be to take the suggestions that have been forwarded to help make your library more presentable. Or live with what it looks like. Maybe then the aesthetics would come into play, and you wouldn't have to cut off your hand.

Listen, just because the developer had chosen to implement an alternative method of handling artwork that doesn't mean that i am some weird dude complaining why cars don't come with wings.I respect his decision and came here to discuss about it.I didn't ask for a refund or anything,i think its a good app, thats why i bought it.
But.The normal behavior for a player is to display a generic image when the file has no artwork.
Need proof? You have a smartphone.Open the default player app that came preinstalled with your phone.Play a track from your library you know has no artwork. What do you see in the artwork area?Exactly. Not all people have the time or the patience to spend thousands of hours customizing the artwork of their collections. If my collection was like 50 albums i would be like ok..lets get over with this. But its not.
So no need to address me like i am speaking about something crazy, its expected behavior what i am talking about. The developer had chosen a different approach and it is understood and respected, after all he didnt enter my house one night and installed his app in my phone,i did.
But don't try to make me look like i don't know what i am doing,i am a dj and music enthousiast for 20+ years and i have a perfectly organized collection of 30.000 tracks that is not depended on tags at all.Vinyl rips,CD rips, personal edits, personal productions, all this stuff come with/have no artwork. If there is artwork in my tracks i'm cool with it and enjoy it,if there isn't i am ok too.Unless i get the artwork from an unrelated track instead. This isnt very nice

Just wanted to point out that the default music player and any other music player that uses the android media library does not store album art on a per track basis, but at a per album level which is exactly what GMMP does. developer.android.com/reference/android/provider/MediaStore.Audio.AudioColumns (notice there is no column for artwork). The key difference is how the android media store handles tagless files. It clearly does not put them together into the same album (i am not exactly sure how it groups them). It must be putting each individual track into its own album? edit: developer.android.com/reference/android/provider/MediaStore.Audio.AlbumColumns#ALBUM_ART album art column is stored with the albums

Is there anything that can be done about this?
