OMG You smashed it. :-) Having disabled the SONGS tab in LIBRARY every album loads instantly when choosing an artist in the LIBRARY. I can't tell you how happy I am!! Thank you

Amount of memory is probably the most important spec for large collections. Whenever i've seen stutters or delays, i'll glance at the log output and its nearly always something memory related (the OS trying to free up memory). Nowadays 4gb+ is pretty safe. CPU wise a snapdragon 6xx or higher would probably be good My last 2 primary playback devices were: moto x pure: www.gsmarena.com/motorola_moto_x_style-7229.phpsony xz2 compact: www.gsmarena.com/sony_xperia_xz2_compact-9082.phpThe sony handles 50k~ like a champ My limitation right now is my sdcard (400gb is my max), so its hard to give a true recommendation for roughly 100k tracks. I wish they would release 2 TB cards

Many thanks for the recommends. Much appreciated. Truth is, I have not experienced any playback issues (stutters etc.) ...and now I have disabled the SONG tab in LIBRARY, GMMP is running ultra smooth; worth noting for anyone who has a device with only 2MB RAM and wanting to use a large collection like mine on a 1TB Card.
Is there a way of setting up GMMPv3 so that when you queue a couple of albums in an empty queue the player will revert to shuffling the entire collection automatically at the end of the queue? At the moment I have to switch on AUTO-DJ and then hit RANDOM TRACK PLAY. In v2 there was an option to set it up so it played random tracks after a play queue had finished (which was a great and unique feature of GMMP).
Also - I've noticed that when trying to scroll through the library and I invoke the fast scroll (bringing up the letters on the right hand side), if I try to navigate using the capital letters, the list doesn't stay static as I scroll through the alphabet...making it fiddly to use the speedy search option.
Really great player. Thank you for all your hard work.

I am running the beta for GMMP 3.x on a LG G8thinQ, using a 400GB card as well. I have a little over 25k songs too, similar to the dev. It is nearly instantaneous response when scrolling, even with the songs list. And sound-wise the Quad DAC is tough to beat. Plus it still has the trusty headphone jack!
I'm am actually considering the new iBasso DX160 based on the great reviews it has for music playback at a sub $400 price. Streaming isn't a concern for me, I think that is the only real knock on that device. But of course GMMP will be installed over the stock player. Mostly this will let me separate my phone functions from music, maybe that will help get me through a full day on one charge for each.😋

Thank you for all your hard work. thanks for the update.. so yea it definitely was that all song query that was lagging everything You can use the on queue completion feature (access via 3 dot menu in the queue) and select shuffle. that will do a shuffle all (although maybe thats not what you want with 100k songs since it makes a massive queue). Waht i do is always leave auto DJ on. You can play/play next/enqueue in taht made while leaving auto dj on. Its what i use personally. "the list doesn't stay static as I scroll through the alphabet" What do you mean by that? In large lists fast scroll wont trigger a load until you stop moving the slider for performance reasons. So typically you fast scroll to the letter using the pop up and let go when you get to the letter.. then regular scroll to the exact position

RE: iBasso DX160...funnily enough, the reason I started having problems with GMMPv2 was because I had to reset my HiBy R5; I was experience battery problems and wanted to see if a Factory Reset solved the problem. It didn't...and then threw up the issue I had that started this whole thread. I love the R5...it's the perfect form factor and with open Oreo 8.1 I'm able to use anything available on Google Play Store (like your app or streaming services). That said, as the battery seems to have a fault, it'll need to be sent back for a while to get it fixed, so I thought I'd try a new device and actually have a DX160 arriving tomorrow! I'll let you know how I get on with it (it's an Amazon purchase so if it's not as described on the box it'll be going straight back!). The DX160 has had very mixed end-user reviews; most pointing to dodgy firmware (BT and WiFi issues)....which is unsurprising as it's a new device. The R5 on the other hand is rock solid and I would highly recommend it (same RAM as the DX160 @ 2MB)...just don't try to use the built in HiBy player! I can't use my phone as a music player - there so many reason why a separate device is preferable for the way I work and listen to music.
RE: "the list doesn't stay static as I scroll through the alphabet" - please ignore that comment from me. That doesn't seem to be an issue today...so may just have been a glitch!
RE: On Queue Completion: shuffle is not an option for a collection the size of mine. In an ideal world there would be an option to "add random track and activate Autio-DJ if not already active" (clearly this would need to be re-worded but you get the idea?). How did the random feature work on GMMPv2? ...it seemed to be able to continually pick a random song without building a queue (which to be honest was sheer genius IMHO, as it left the queue empty so you could build an 'on the fly playlist' which, when it was finished, would revert to playing random songs again). This may be the only thing that I feel was better on v2 as opposed to v3.

Apologies...should have thought this through...
(Possilbe?) simple(??) solution to my "On Queue Completion" issue. Can you add a "Play Random" option on the drop down list of options via the 3 dot menu in QUEUE)? Every other option seems to be there. This would mean the device would play a random track once a queue has finished and until a new play queue is created...right?

yeah. not sure why that isnt there. play random was part of 2.x. Perhaps i just replaced it with the shuffle option. I can add it back
I thought enable auto dj on queue completion was listed on trello but apparently not. I did plan on adding that as an option as well

Adding Play Random to the "On Queue Completion" list would be amazing! Thank you

As promised I thought I'd give you a bit of feedback on the iBasso DX160 that arrived this morning. Good build quality, good size (on the larger size but not heavy like the Hiby R6Pro), amazing 1080x1920 screen. Setting it up was relatively simple, though you have to download Google Play using the built in Chinese AppStore (in Chinese!)...but once downloaded you have access to all the apps you'll want (GMMP, Tidal, Spotify etc.). Despite the poor reviews re: BT and WiFi connectivity I've not had any issues (yet). Checking battery life overnight...hen deciding whether to keep it or not. I woudl like to keep it. The R5 is a better machine I think (the OS is more fluid on the R5, which makes me think the DX160 is only just capable of running Oreo) but my 97K library runs fine in GMMP (with the same tweaks to get it to work well on the R5). Your UI looks gorgeous on the large screen with both Layout options looking excellent. And the larger screen on the DX160 means typing search criteria is much easier. If I could only have one, I'd probably stick with the R5 (slightly smaller, more fluid, better battery life according to the specs)...but my R5 will now be sent back for a new battery.
Thanks again for your quick responses and for developing such an amazing app. Do you need me to post the request on Trello to add Play Random to the "On Queue Completion" list?
I'm more than happy to keep this thread going and give you more feedback on the DX160 once I've used it for a few days (still need to try my favourite headphones, etc. as well as the battery life. But I'm aware you may prefer to get onto other things...let me know.

i only allow access to comment on trello, the rest is managed by me but you should already see the card on there for on queue completion under beta 9

Was also looking at the Fiio M11, but seems it has a pretty dry sound signature according to most of the reviews. Although overall it seems to be the go-to player for most. The DX160 apparently has the lowest noise floor of any player to date and that is of particular interest to me when listening at lower volumes. On the other end of that, the output levels are also supposed to be phenomal versus other player. The biggest deal-breaker of course is the ability to install 3rd party player apps, as all of the built-in ones apparently really suck, regardless of the brand. Hence the reason we are all here, with GMMP having one of the most functional and definitely the best UI of the bunch. And when the audio engine gets some attention some time in the future (near future GoneMAD?) that will be the icing on the cake!

Very easy to install 3rd Party apps as although the DX160 doesn’t come with Google Play Stor installed, its real easy to install it using the built in Chinese App Store, which now has Google Play its list. None of the pre-installed apps on the DX160 are worth opening, let alone using.
VERY happy with the DX160. Marginally better sound than the HiBy R5 and R6 - slightly larger sound stage and more pleasing high end. But I use a lot of EQ for my different headphones so, to be honest, I can get all three players to sound to my liking.
Battery life seems to be as advertised ...which is very good but not amazing. But the size and weight is perfect.
The OS is not as fluid as on my 2 x HiBy players - but I only use a few apps and all for Music playing to streaming - so no worries there.
On balance this is probably the best player I have tried. I’m not a fan of Fiio and have tried a few...but at this level it becomes a matter personal taste. For me the balance needs to be sound, battery life, size/weight, screen...in that order. So for me the best is then DX160 and a very close runner up is the R5 which is smaller than the DC160 (though about the same weight), has better battery life than the DC160 and better OS performance... but marginally ‘flatter’ sound and (because it’s smaller) more fiddly to input info via keyboard.
GMMP runs really well on all three with.la library of 97K songs...so long as SONGS is disabled in the Library view (which is no loss as I would never browse through that many titles!).
Hope this helps.
