"on the shorter term i do plan on having a way to import custom channels from other running instances of quasi tv (but it would just be the list of channels / movies and not the full schedule)" That was going to be my next question... This would be a huge time saver, thank you. yea i have about 5-6 diff devices at my house running quasi tv. def dont want to manually recreate everything on each one

Now that custom channels are available, would it be possible to get rid of the auto generated channels?

yup thats on the list of things to do. specifically hiding specific auto generated channels and an option to not generate any to begin with during the setup

How about an option to only play only already watched content? The way I use these “tv” plugins is to have it running, sometime in the background while I’m doing something else. Just like turning on cable tv and letting it play. Beside, I don’t think it’s a good idea to have unwatched content playing randomly, out of order right?
If I want to view new, unwatched content I’d rather use the regular Emby interface.

yeah i could add that at some point. a counter point tho, having unwatched content is good for discovering content. my wife has found a few shows just by seeing what was on quasi tv

Feature requests - Force wide screen - audio normalization (Normalize audio volume across all files) - Movie Genres (Could you allow us to modify what is displayed in the channel list)
Custom Channel Features - After naming a custom channel it goes to the search page which you can search for a movie or TV Show to be added to your custom channel list. Below are TV shows and Movies. Could you make it easier to find content by adding a filter to both TV Shows and Movies? This way we could select a Network, Genre, Year, Actor, Producer, etc instead of scrolling endlessly or searching for each individual thing. This would be extremely helpful and a huge time saver.
Plex Live TV DVR - Are you planning on incorporating live Plex TV into the channel lineup?
Thanks again for your hard work and regular updates!

hi. keep in mind quasitv uses exoplayer for video playback so im restricted to only adding features that exoplayer can support "Force wide screen" That might be possible. i'll add to request list "audio normalization" Doesnt look to be possible with exoplayer: github.com/google/ExoPlayer/issues/3349"- Movie Genres (Could you allow us to modify what is displayed in the channel list)" before 1.0 is final i'll add the ability to hide (or maybe simply just delete) any premade channel "- After naming a custom channel it goes to the search page which you can search for a movie or TV Show to be added to your custom channel list. Below are TV shows and Movies. Could you make it easier to find content by adding a filter to both TV Shows and Movies? This way we could select a Network, Genre, Year, Actor, Producer, etc instead of scrolling endlessly or searching for each individual thing. This would be extremely helpful and a huge time saver." After 1.0 is finished i'll certainly be looking at making improvements on the current capabilities. I'll add to the request list but as of right now quasitv's database does not contain most of that information (search uses the local database which is why its so fast) "- Are you planning on incorporating live Plex TV into the channel lineup?" No. No plans to support live tv. Thats not the purpose of the app (and also wouldnt work with how quasi tv was built)

A work around for creating custom channels...
1. Start fresh without any added libraries. 2. Add the library that contains the content for your custom channel. 3. Add only what you want to add for a specific custom channel, say Lifetime Movies. 4. Add your content to the custom channel one-by-one. Suggestion: It would be helpful for you to add an "add all" option to both movies and TV Shows as well as a "remove all" option when editing a custom channel. 5. Delete the library you just added (this will not effect your custom channel you just created). 6. Add your next folder and continue steps 2-5 until you are done creating all of your custom channels. 7. Once you are finished adding all of your custom channels, add all of the libraries back into Quasi TV. 8. All of your custom channels will re-appear and will work as normal.
Thanks

Wow, I love this app, it has so much potential. What I like is that you have been able to do what other similar implimentation have not, that is to connect to plex direcly and play videos with a what seems to be a very good player. I love how instant it is during playback almost like using plex itself. I tried dizquetv, pseudotv but found limitations that were too much for my purpose, issues like crashing when changing channels. I wanted this because of the kids in my life, they love plex but lately have been having trouble picking what they want to watch "fighting with eachother". So I looked for live TV implementation and I found DizqueTV which connected to plex via dvr like setup, I was able to setup custom channels using playlist and specific TV Shows, put custom logos on the channels I created and it looked very pretty on plex, the kids enjoyed it very much but it had trouble changing channels and it would crash and would require too much work to get it working. So I gave up on dizque TV and by pure luck I found this beautiful app. It works really well in regard to playback which was my biggest problem.
But all is not well, as much as I like this app it is lacking in many features that would make it hands down the king of pseudo TV experience.
1.The very first is the ability to choose not to use auto channel creation and create custom channels from plex playlists.
2. The second problem is the epg itself, though I can work with it, my kids found it very confusing. It would be nice to have an epg like in plex, where I can also choose custom channel Logos that can be located from device storage (like in dizqueTV). Also it would be nice to have the ability to display channnel logo in the epg/ channel name/ channel name and logo.
3. The option to choose whether to able or not be able to skip to shows ahead of schedule, the ability to enable/ disable rewind/forward and pause thus making it like live TV.
4. The ability to use plex playback settings (automatic audio and subs language) or the ability to change them in QuasiTV. The ability to change aspect ratio and to choose universal aspect ratio.
5. Ability to refresh channels after a some time has passed
6. Ability to change between full screen epg/ half screen epg while current channel is still active (if you decide to reqork the epg appearence). full screen could like like plex does with a little box top right or left. Half screen could look like the default pseudotv skin in kodi (stevb1968).
7. The ability to create channels with only unwatched episode and or movies from library.
8. The ability to add specific tv shows and movies and play them in order.
additional features that are not as important but might make for a nicer experience :-
1. A little coming up next could pop from top left or right with the name and poster/backgorung image of the show coming next when the current programme is nearing the end.
2. The ability to add user defined number of commercials nefore playing next programme and even during a program (like commercial breaks) if that is possible. This can be music videos, short home videos whatever the user sees fit.
3. The ability to add a channel logo watermark on user defined corner of the screen (like the logo watermark in cable).
4. Maybe implentation that could connect to sites like youtube/ netflix and play user defined playlists, channels or TV Shows as channels.
These are not criticisms of the app really, I just love what you have created here and I thought that in my own bumbling way I could share my ideas of how it can be improved and make for a better user experience. Lastly I want to say thank you for creating such an amazing app and I will be keeping an eye on it to see how it develops. Anyway, Have a nice day and stay safe.

thanks for the feedback. A bunch of what you are asking for i do have planned
Keep in mind that UI wise I am mostly limited to what the android tv libraries provide (leanback library). I've tried to leverage them as best as i can to get the desired effect i wanted but they have their limits. A simple example would be to get the whole guide to move as one (all the channels). Google provides nothing that can achieve that without writing a completely custom solution (which can be very time consuming).
I plan to pick up development on quasitv sometime soon as i scale back development on my other app which i recently just released massive update to. Once the bugs in that go down i can focus more on this app

I absolutely love the new Program Guide! My only complaint is the text is a little small and hard to see on a smaller TV.
Guide Feature requests - Make guide text bigger or increase text of the selected channel in the guide (this may reduce the large void on top of the guide) - Channel text is cut off on the guide if it is too long - Add TV show / movie description to bottom guide, on the right side(Possible automatically scroll description if it is really long) - Add year and rating (G, PG, PG-13, R) to the bottom of the guide under season and episode info - Guide photo for movies should use background photo instead of the poster picture as it is cut off on the top and bottom - The current time would be a nice feature on the top right of the guide
Keep those updates coming; looking very professional. Thanks for your hard work...

Thanks for your hard work... I used the default font sizes that came with the library but i do have a larger text option on the todo list "- Channel text is cut off on the guide if it is too long" whats the actual request? its currently shortened to fit "Add TV show / movie description to bottom guide, on the right side(Possible automatically scroll description if it is really long) - Add year and rating (G, PG, PG-13, R) to the bottom of the guide under season and episode info" Guide is currently just showing the info quasitv stores in its database. Anything else will most likely have to be retrieve on the fly which i'll eventually mess around with. I'm trying to release a 1.0 in the short term and get it on the amazon app store so I am holding off any sort of data model related changes until thats done. App has been in early access for almost a year now haha

I just wanted to drop a quick line and let you know I just found your app and installed it tonight. It's exactly what I've wanted for Plex since I first found Plex last year. I think I saw a request for something like this somewhere else, but would it be possible when building a custom channel of TV shows that the shows play in the following order: Show A-Season 1-Episode 1; Show B-Season 1 Episode 1; Show C-Season 1-Episode 1; Show A-Season 1-Episode 2; Show B-Season 1-Episode 2; Show C-Season 1-Episode 2
Plex /almost/ does this with a playlist based on airdate, but that doesn't actually work as shows sometimes appear years before or after other shows you'd want in the same playlist. And in actuality, a custom channel setting based strictly on airdate would be great. Some shows have "spin-offs" that are episodic/ order specific, like The Walking Dead and The Talking Dead.
Another feature I would be appreciative of is importing playlists and/or collections as custom channels.
Being able to hide/delete specific automatic channels would be nice and I think you said it was on your list of things to do, but you can put my vote in for that feature/ability.
In any case, your app has completely changed my Plex and TV watching experience. Thank you for all your hard work!

scheduling is currently done as you had described. Each show is scheduled in episode order.. the starting point when building the channels is chosen at random, but after that they go in episode order. Is that what you are referring to? Or are you talking about how quasi tv does the block scheduling where it will group a few episodes in a row and you would prefer just one episode per show?
I plan on building a web admin ui since trying to configure stuff using a TV UI is pretty slow and painful (and building the actual TV UIs is tons of work). A lot of the advanced scheduling ideas out there are fairly easy to do in code.. its allowing the user to configure each channel a certain way that is the difficult part which would most likely be made a lot easier with a non TV configuration UI

Hi! Two things... I just stumbled into finding the function to hide/remove channels, so my apologies for the redundant request which you've already addressed so thank you for that already. With regards to the show scheduling request, on my TV (Amazon) the episodes are block scheduled as you mentioned, but they're playing in a random order as opposed to being in a serial sequence. Which isn't a bad thing per se, but I would like the option of one episode at a time and/or having them play in sequence staggered by show, then season, then episode. If there was one switch to do block scheduling vs single episode scheduling and another switch to be random vs sequential that would be just simply wow!
And yeah, the TV UI is slow and painful, but you have to work with what you have, and what you've created is, in my personal opinion, amazing! It seems like you've got a lot of features planned for the future and I'm just happy to have found your app when I did and I've already told a couple of friends and my son about it, all are Plex users. Thanks so much!
