I am trying GMMP because Blackplayer does not tell me how many songs are loaded and I can't see import progress (I have close to 5k songs on the card). GMMP resolves that but creates 3 new problems. a) I cannot find where to choose phone vs card storage. b) The scanner pulled files and sound effects from other programs that were not in the folder I selected in scanner settings. c) I cannot figure out the UI. The way I listen to music is to just shuffle my entire library. I don't pick and choose albums, artists, or songs. I don't create playlists. I cannot figure out how to simply shuffle and play the entire library.

1 / 2) SEttings -> Scanner -> Edit scan paths. Uncheck everything and only select the folders you care about (the top level /storage folder IS selected by default). Delete the database and run a new scan 3). For gmmp 2.x just hit the shuffle button until its colored. That will shuffle your entire collection. In gmmp 3.0 beta go to the library's 3 dot menu at the top and select shuffle all

a) it sounds like then there is no way to select card vs phone storage. b) I verified several times that I only had the one folder checked and yet it pulled in sound effects from other places. Is there a bug? c) I have version 2.2.23 and the only place I find a shuffle button is in the QUEUE menu which was empty but now shows 3052 songs, which is far short of the 4321 songs scanned. I don't know how music gets into the queue and why it is missing a thousand songs.
a) yea check the location your sdcard is mounted to. On most newer versions of android its mounted in /storage/ with an odd name like F239-0572 b) no not a bug, you have sound effects in a location added by the scanner, sound effects that dont correctly contain a .nomedia file to tell media players to ignore it. A good tip is any folder that appears colored, checked or not is picked up by the scanner. If a folder is not checked but colored that means one of its parents is checked. You can also add specific folders you want to ignore to the "edit ignore paths", but that requires you to know where the sound effects are c) the shuffle icon is the 5th button in now playing.... unless you changed around how now playing looks (then there should be a toggle shuffle in now playing's 3 dot menu)
"now shows 3052 songs, which is far short of the 4321 songs scanned. " sounds like you have a hidden .nomedia file somewhere in your music folder which will cause media players to not scan the folders contents. In the scanner settings you can select the option to ignore nomedia. If a new scan does not pick up your missing songs I am going to guess you have issues with your storage or they are located in a different place you have added to the scanner. The fact that both black player and gmmp does not find them is a good indication of that.

a & b) Thanks ... that helped ... I now know how to select the appropriate folder c) still nobody has said how files get from the library to the queue d) I don't see a NOW PLAYING button anywhere ... my left sliding menu has: QUEUE, LIBRARY, FOLDER, PLAYLISTS, SMART, SEARCH, EFFECTS, SETTINGS, EXIT I have not changed how NOW PLAYING looks because I don't know how to do that.
