In case of "Artist" option application is not working as expected in Android Auto (latest UI). Basically when this mode is selected GMMP shows Artist list but when clicking on artist title some random album by selected artist start playing immediately (not even first song from the album) I would expect that list of albums will be shown like any other player I used before. It looks like a bug to me.
Also it would be nice to have ability to specify what selection would be available under AA. So far I only found check box that allows to show all options (way too many in my opinion) or default one but no availability to customize. Unless I'm missing something.

selecting an artist will play that artist on random.. that is the intended behavior

Thanks for a quick response. Not sure I would agree with such implementation and looks like only GMMP has such behavior (based on my experience). How about 2nd question? Is it possible to configure what option AA will display to select the album manually? Ideally I'd like to see only options I plan to use to avoid scrolling on the screen.

if you want to listen to a specific album, then you can request that album in auto using a voice command.
"Is it possible to configure what option AA will display to select the album manually? " Its not. Auto api is fairly limited and google encourages developers to keep it as simple as possible to discourage distractions while driving. That is why most things are hidden behind the full android auto access option. Google hand reviews apps that implement auto before approving them and they are pretty pick (or more likely just have incompetent reviewers... i've had the app rejected multiple times despite not changing anything from a previously approved)

"if you want to listen to a specific album, then you can request that album in auto using a voice command." - I'm having trouble to play music using voice command. AA tries to play what I'm asking for using google music for example and not GMMP as I want it to. Do you mind to provide examples of commands that are working in AA? I tried something like "Play S&M album by Metallica on GoneMad player" but it doesn't work in my car using in-dash unit. I had some success when running AA directly on the phone. First started playing music in GMMP manually and then just asked Google to play some other album or artist. It worked for me (more or less)

i dont have a car unit so i cant really help for that, but the AA app does seem to work for me. Voice search is supposed to be directed to the music app that currently has audio focus, so by playing or opening something in gmmp.. that would give it focus. Some things to try: GMMP is registered as "GoneMAD Music Player", so you would have to use that full name (i've changed this to just "GoneMAD" in 3.0) Android seems to do a pretty bad job determining album name and artist name when the command is "play X by Y". Try just requesting the album name. On the app version you can at least select the current music player via the button that looks like headphones. Have you tried selecting gmmp before giving the command? I would guess google play music is the default This post might be relevant: gonemadmusicplayer.proboards.com/thread/1018/google-assistant

Just tried this approach (start playing GMMP first and then ask Google) with dashboard unit and it worked the same way as on the phone!
"Android seems to do a pretty bad job determining album name and artist name when the command is "play X by Y". Try just requesting the album name." - Yes you are correct. Just album name approach works much better. Artist search works as well but I think it's not always starts from first song. Is it correct? Is it possible to always start from first song in the album or this is intended behavior?
Appreciate your help!

artist voice search is the same action as selecting an artist in auto. I'll randomize all the songs from the artist and play that. Album search should always play in the order of the track, is it not playing in order?
Eventually in 3.0 i can look into adding some play order options for voice search and auto, but the current randomness / shuffle on artist play was done because I and many others dont want to listen to the same songs in the same order every time i play an artist. When i play an album i expect it to play that whole album in order.. but for an artist i just want to listen to something from them.. not anything in particular. Think about artists who have 20+ albums, having it start on the same album / song every time would be annoying. Now i guess if your collection only contains single albums from each artist it would make more sense to want to listen to that one album by the artist in order, but the GMMP userbase tends to have larger collections so that use case is a lot less common.

"Album search should always play in the order of the track, is it not playing in order?" - Yes it plays in order. No issue here. "But the current randomness / shuffle on artist play was done because I and many others don't want to listen to the same songs in the same order every time" - Ok. Got it. The problem is I'm not always remember exact album name. I'm OK with random album but I can see GMMP is very configurable so I hope one day you would allow user to specify how it should play: random or first. Also I would suggest to have search in "Settings" to help faster find what you are looking for. I have one more question that is not directly related to this topic so I apologize in advance. Do you have any plans to support Hi-Res Output (where device equipped with better DAC like Samsung latest models for example)? Edit: After searching I found your answer here but it was on Nov 12, 2017. Do you have anything to add? Thanks for all your hard work!
