I am trying Gone Mad with an Android head unit in a car, but I can't get GM to auto resume playing it loads back up. Is this a currently available feature? Thanks

there are auto / always resume options in general -> headset. Despite the name being headset, there are checkboxes for BT connection along with wired / dock. Keep in mind gmmp's music service must be running in order for it to be able to detect the connection, so if you have battery saver/battery restriction set for the app, turn that off. If thats still an issue i've found adding a widget to your homescreen will also keep the service running

I have a similar question. Instead of starting a new thread I'll post it here. I have an older phone I use as a dedicated music player (not even activated) and I use it 99% of the time in the car, connected with a cable from the out jack on the phone to an aux jack in the car (no bluetooth).
When I get home, my typical action is to pause the current song, double tap 'Back' to exit the app, then turn off the car and phone.
So, the next time I go out and start up GMMP I find the current song view to be empty and I have to reselect a folder to play. What do I need to do to simply continue where I last left off, i.e., just hit Play and rock on with the song I had paused when I last exited the program? I am using vs. 1.6.8.

you need to make sure all your music is scanned into the library (visible in the library views). Anything not in the library doesnt save in the queue once the app is exited. I havent used 1.6.8 in many years but somewhere the settings there is a bunch of scanner options.. you want to make sure the scan paths include all the folders of your music.. and if those are set correctly and the music still does not show up in the library views then you most likely have a hidden .nomedia file with your music that tells the scanner to skip it. There should also be an option in the scanner to ignore .nomedia files
I dont not remember what type of auto scan options are in 1.6.8, but im pretty sure that was before i added the syncing with the android media library, so when you add new music you need to run a scan to pick it all up. There should be some auto scan options (like scan every X hours or something along the lines of that)

I guess everything must be in the Library because when I power on and nav to those various views the content is listed, but I see that the Queue is empty, so the problem must be related to the queue. (Now, if I just exit GMMP and then launch it again without powering off I do not have the problem and the queue remains populated.)
As far as scan paths of song storage, I have a top level folder named 'Music'. That level has no individual song files in it. It contains several subfolders that contain the songs--the subfolders are specific artists or genres like, say, 'Foo Fighters', '38 Special, 'Pop', 'Jazz', 'Misc Singles', etc. I only have one (1) scan path specified which is the top level folder 'Music' (making the assumption that subfolders are scanned by default). To create my playlists, I go to 'Folder' view, long tap, and add a selected subfolder and/or individual songs from the subfolder, to a playlist. Should that be OK, or do I have to add every single subfolder/subdirectory path to the scan list?
I don't believe there are any .nomedia files; can't imagine why there would be. I used two different file browsers, with 'Show hidden files' ticked, and don't see any. I do have the option in GMMP ticked to ignore them, though.
Since the initial install a couple days ago I haven't added any new songs, but I understand that they will have to be scanned into to lib.
OK, I find that after power on and selecting a playlist to play, playback begins and the Queue is populated. So, I guess for some reason the Queue is getting cleared at power down or not reloaded at power up??

to test without powering off.. force kill gmmp. Exiting itself doesnt necessarily stop everything thats running in the background.
If the playlists were not created in gmmp there is a chance that while gmmp can find the files references on the storage, but the locations it finds them in does not match what is stored in the database. Older versions of android were especially bad with having multiple folders point to the same folders in storage.. ie something like /storage/emulated/0/Music and /storage/Music are actually the same folder. If the database contains one but the playlist uses the other gmmp will play them fine but will not maintain them in the queue after app termination

Well, here's an interesting development. It seems to be working correctly now. After recharging the phone, powering up, and launching the app, the last song playing was right there on Pause. I believe the only thing I changed was 'Scan On Media Mounted' thinking that maybe Power-On would, of course, load the o/s, and the o/s would mount the media, initiating a scan. (Maybe not be correct, or relevant to the problem, but that's what I was thinking.) Now, initially, that did not seem to make a difference, but maybe upon another power cycle it did. Ya got me....
I tried the Force Stop as you suggested above. When I restarted the app the song was there, on Pause. I did at least two(2) more power cycles and it still seemed to be working OK, so I think I'm good to go. One more question, though.
When I look at the 'Folders' list, the songs display as Artist/Song Name--although sorted alphabetically by song. Is there a way to change the format of that row so the Song name displays before the artist? THX

i dont even remember what scan on media mounted option does, but another thing that could wipe the queue is files being removed from the database (and then later readded). Is your storage an external hard drive or anything?
Only view options for folder view is the filename or tags (artist - song). 3.0 will have basically everything that shows metadata to be configurable. 1.x and 2.x is mostly fixed besides now playing for the displayed metadata

The storage on the phone is on the external SD card (i.e., the card I inserted, not the "built in" storage they refer to as 'SD card').
Oh, OK. So, all I had to do was go into Prefereces>Library>File Browser and untick 'Read Tags'. That gave me exactly what I wanted, file name only. THX
Well, as far as I can tell, I'm good to go. Thanks so much for your attention in helping me with this older version. In addition to being a developer for years I also did tech support, so I know...
