Hello,
The player has nearly all features I need for dancing, exept one: remote controlling.
I use an Android Tablet build into my music equipment for ballroom dancing. I mostly assemble a playlist for a training unit. So while I dance, I mostly use Play/Pause/PauseAfterEndOfThisSong/Next/Previos/Tempo. While some of this is simply accessible on the screen, some others need some more clicks throuht the menu. Setting a tempo (Max +/-10%) is not easy, as the possible range in the app is much to wide.
Best would be a hardware solution, remote controlling the app.
For example, the easiest Way would be a "web-server" in the App, so you could give commands to it simply via url-request:
http://User:pass@MyTabletIPorName:PortOfBuildinWebServer/command?Pause=1
For Pause the playing. Commands could be nearly every action. Tempo=1.02 (for 2% more Speed) or TempoChange=-0.02 to reduce Tempo by 2 percent. Maybe even a command like PlayRandom&Genre=Disco&MinRating=4&Smart=NotOften to randomly Play a good, not often played Song for dancing Discofox...
A Hardware Remote Controller would be a very simple and cheap thing (ca. 10-15US$): Arduino + some switches + Potentiometer(for Tempo) + battery + case. The arduino checks the switches and the position of the potentiometer and sent the neccassary url-request.
You could even use more than one "Remote" Control (if tempo not by poti but incemental input), so one big control with hotkeys for searching by genres and ratings (and Pause, Play, PauseAfterActualSong, Next, Prev...) and a Remote small control only with Play/Pause/PauseAfterActualSong (and maybe "Another randomly from this Genre")
My scenario may be special. But even in normal "home use" a Remote control can be usefull. Best music quality is done by a Smartphone/Tablet physicaly connected to an amplyfier. So, if Remote controlling is integrated in the App, next step would be a remoteControl App,
