a pretty significant amount. I am pretty sure the tagging library just reuses the existing id3 version that the file already contains

Oh lol, I didn't even notice the page links at the top left. I was still looking at the first page.
Anyway, the tagging library at the moment seems to write tags using ID3v1 and ID3v2.4. I normally have all my tags written with ID3v2.3 and I notice when I edit the tag/rating using GMMP, the tag switches to ID3v1 and ID3v2.4.
Perhaps custom tagging options could maybe be a GMMP v3.0+ feature in the future.
Thank for all the responses and help. GMMP by far is the best music player on the Android store!!!.

I know the id3v2.4 support isnt the greatest
