Thanks for your detailed reply. I guess you are aware that it happens with my Android 4.4.1 devices also. And "looking at the running apps list in the system settings" might be easy for you. I have no clue on that - especially without waking system, without USB connection (no sleep) and screen switched off..
Regards.
EDIT: I tried to send a report after device wake up. ES Taskmanager listed the music service to be started (from GMMP) and running.

only thing i received was a database and i dont know if it was from you or not as there was no context in the email. A logcat is what is needed

A logcat is what is needed I think I already provided several logcat in previous post: gonemadmusicplayer.proboards.com/post/3978And as I already written: if you need some information, tell me how to generate it and i provide it for you. I am firmware programmer myself, but have no experience with android development. I guess I have spent a lot more time on the issue that you - and I have bought your product. If you will never going to fix this issue with GMMP, just tell me clearly now - to save time for both of us. Regards. Thomas

Thomas Until i can reproduce the issue or see stack traces/error logs showing the issue, i cannot fix it.. so yeah.. take that for whats its worth. If you know anything about software development you would understand where i am coming from. The logic behind remote play/pause has been looked over hundreds of times Also the logs provided show nothing of use (thats not your fault at all.. there is just nothing there to indicate any issue)

Maybe I do not understand correctly what sections you are referring to, but to find some cause you might need to compare the Play (successful) section to the later one I headlined with: Play (not successfull on first key press), which are the events after a pause of about 5 seconds, where the first key press didn't successfully started the playback.
A further test on a ASUS Fonepad 7 with Android 4.4.2 showed no problem. So you may be right, that the issue is limited to xperia devices only. If you want me to send you my backup xperia device (from Germany) for testing, let me know. But it is not rooted.

After renaming the folders (removing the leading '.' - it has been there in the hope to make android ignoring them and not draining battery with scanning and building an additional music DB with the mediascanner) and rebuilding the DB of GMMP the behavior of ignoring first key press seems to have disappeared. Sorry for any inconvenience. But I think I already had a test with a folder without a leading '.', I'm not sure, if this is really the cause. But for now everything is good. If the malfunction reappears, I will continue testing and give more information.
Thanks!

Thomas

that is quite odd. a leading . shouldnt really affect things
If you want a folder to be ignored on android, the standard procedure is to place a blank .nomedia file inside the folder. That tells the scanner to skip over it.
GMMP has the option to ignore that file, so if you wanted to avoid the android media library from scanning.. that would be the best solution

Thanks for your answer. >that is quite odd. a leading . shouldnt really affect things Directories with leading '.' are not visible in various file managers. And there where rumors, that this "system directories" would be skipped by media scanner, too. >If you want a folder to be ignored on android, the standard procedure is to place a blank .nomedia file inside the folder. Unfortunately not. A .nomedia file only (sometimes) prevents the media scanner to include the meta information of the file into it's database, BUT the file itself *will be included* in the DB (e.g. for MTP file access)! At least since Android 4.1. There seems to be no way to avoid this! And the .nomedia file will be ignored when the file is explicitly added to the media DB (by the tool/app writing it). code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=24162#c14Regards

welp if your phone is ignoring .nomedia then you have no one else to blame but the manufacturer. Its an android standard that i've personally seen work on 70 or so devices

if your phone is ignoring .nomedia As Media Transfer Protocol - which is relying on the file/media database - is integral part of any (newer ?) version of android, it will always scan all files independent of a .nomedia file; thus draining battery at any start and possibly blocking apps trying to access the media data base. But of course this is only really noticeable with a very large set of media files or with special investigations/tests. A .nomedia file might only avoid the categorization of the files and the reading and adding the files meta information. Please read above linked information: Putting a .nomedia file doesn't mean that the media scanner won't scan anything else further down the folder. It just means that whatever it finds there won't be considered "media" as far as the Gallery and Music app are concerned. The media scanner will still build a complete list of all the files. And most certainly all this is NOT dependent on phone or manufacturer, as you believe. Regards

The behavior comes and goes. As suspected it has nothing to do with directory names staring with '.' I've got no idea, when the system/GMMP ignores the first key press.
There are also sporadic delays from seconds to minutes (android asks if i still want to wait for GMMP).
Unfortunately I'm unable to give further information, on how to reproduce.
Regards.

In gmmp the scanner will not scan the folder or subfolder once it reaches a .nomedia file. It backs out of the directory
